    Does It Get Any Better?

Cognizant of our limited daylight, we pulled out of the mine
and paused only briefly at the infamous sign at the top of Lippincott Pass

HIGH CLEARANCE | NO TOW SERVICE | CAUTION.

    Just what we wanted.

The Dcab rear ended a chevy so all parts from the Firewall FWD was shit.

Pic when I got it home and after I cut out the rest of the radiator, AC, Fan.

I did that, amongst other things, last summer. What're you doing about the ECU?

Well, that's my stopper. I have the 98 manual ECU, or would it be just as easy to use the 99 auto ecu and connect a few wires? I posted my question in the first gen tacoma thread I believe as well. I've downloaded mosks wiring comparisons and the toyota diagrams but I'm not getting it too well. I may be over thinking it.

    ouch.

Yeah i just hit a deer on the driver's corner. Things are tweaked for sure. I haven't stripped it down yet to see if the new fender lines up good or not. But the core support is definitely bent there and it looks like the apron has a small kink of a bubble in it too...

I had a 2000 I bought wrecked and was able to straighten the aprons with a new cores support from rockauto and do a 01+ conversion on it and it all looked decent after. I bet you won't have to get into the cab to split the seams and replace them.

what do you mean split the seams? The seam at the cab to apron? or does the apron split in half? How did you straighten the aprons? Good ole fashion hammer? :p

When I hit the pole, all it did was fold the apron up some. Comealong and a hammer worked wonders

Where the apron and cab meet they overlap each other. There are some bolts to hold it together while it's spot welded and seam sealed during assembly. No intentional splits in the apron from Toyota. I used a Clarkson tool kit and a floor jack to lift the debbie downer corner under the battery tray on my '00.

Best Pic I have of the seam area.

There is still fender that I just rough cut long to get out of the way on the Dcab. When I put the apron back on I just butt welded and over laped with some 18ish GA I had laying around from the cab tub jobs.

    Nice!

Hope I don't have to do that. But cool to know about it.

Hmmm... What's your reasoning for going aftermarket, and do you have a link?

I quite literally build intercoolers and radiators for a living, so i'm considering building my own, but I don't want to waste the time and money if it's not worth it.

Totally curious if Galvanic Corrosion would be an issue since you're mixing Aluminum with whatever metals are present in the cooling loop.

Well the OE Radiator is aluminum core...so...not really.

Galvanic action happens when you have dissimilar metals in contact or an electrical current passing between them. Shouldn’t be an issue here.
