139.7mm = 5.5". So its more common than you think, just have to be careful with center bores, cant recall Tacoma center bore off hand but I think its around 106mm ??

The stock rear section really isn't all that heavy, it's thin wall c channel. The axle is a bit heavy but it's unsprung and you could pull a leaf if it just being a trailer. Hell if you cut up a 2wd it might be perfect as is.

Ahh I see, you are looking for an axle to use that would accept Toyota wheels? Chevy uses 6 x 5.5" and use a smaller center bore, so you could use a Tacoma wheel on that. You cannot use a chevy wheel on a Tacoma because center bore is bigger on a Tacoma. I actually use Chevy axles in my Ford 9" and mount Tacoma wheels to them just fine. You would be using the whole rear end but for the purpose of the axle it would mount the same. This is a chevy 6 x 5.5 bolt pattern axle from Currie with a Tacoma wheel. I am not sure which Chevy use that pattern though

I'm looking at a bed from a double cab and I don't think they guy will want to cut up the frame for me, so I'm looking at making one myself. Plus I want electric trailer brakes and those aftermarket axles have them.

I found a really good example of a 2nd gen - here's what I am trying to do

So you could use a chevy 6 x 5.5 axle providing you found one, and Tacoma wheels would mount to it

Trailer brakes are nice, makes hauling my 12' motorcycle trailer much safe with the cruiser. Have you welded before? Also Dexter axle makes a 6x5.5 axle with brakes.

Yep won't be my first time welding. Just planning on using steel square channel. That frame looks really simple to make

I didn't know about an all alum radiator for our trucks either. I had been looking for one for a couple weeks, and then someone posted a link to one listed on ebay. I figured out it was a Champion Radiator, and bought it from their site (was actually cheaper than the listing on ebay).

I've never understood the obsession with having an all aluminum radiator in a Toyota. It's not like it's a BMW where it needs to be changed every 3 years or 36k along with every cooling system part.

If Koyo made one that was OEM fit for the 3.4 and I needed a replacement I'd go that route, but OEM Toyota or Denso is good enough.

for some, its getting rid of the plastic. Most radiators need replaced because the plastic get's old and heat soak to make it brittle and cracks. Not the core itself.

Post up when you install it, I’m curious how well it will line up with mounts, hoses, etc. I may go with one of these next time around.

I've never had a Honda or a Toyota rad split that wasn't as old as dirt. I recently tossed my original factory rad that held up just fine for 13 years and 269k and replaced with another OEM Toyota. It had no signs of leaks I just did this as PM

I will definately do that. Was planning on doing a little write up on it, along with the timing belt/water pump replacement.

Interesting.... copper conducts heat better though.. might explain why nothing has ever had the heat my truck had

My corolla still has the original at over 650k... showing no signs of leaking... even after 2 fairly bad front end accidents
