Do you happen to know or remember if there was a little washer on both sides of the bearing? I’m an idiot and don’t remember.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
I've never understood why so many people insist that Toyota parts are the absolute end all be all parts and everything should only be replaced with OEM. Except of course in the case of every particular modification they have done to their own truck.

OEM parts are made to the lowest cost/specification. My truck has never... ever... idled (for anything more than 3 or 4 minutes) without getting hot. From day one that I owned the truck. I am making a conscious effort to replace everything in the cooling system - that I can right now. One of those things is the garbage OEM radiator that is essentially plastic JB welded to the sigle row aluminum core.

    actually...

Toyota has the highest quality control and specs of any main auto maker in many ways.

There are definitely places where the OEM parts far exceed over parts store parts.(LBJ and steering rack for instance)

Radiator is not one of those though.

Also doesn't mean that toyota didn't do stupid shit.

I know you are very overly passionate about this to which most of us are baffled by and question sometimes why you bothered owning one..but the writing is on the wall when it comes to people trying parts store parts and then having to resort to the "cheap low cost" OEM parts as they are the only ones that last(again, steering rack and LBJ for example).

I wouldn't stand by your statement ever as many of the OEM spec parts are by far the best choice.

That one of the biggest loads of bull honky i've seen today.

Do you honestly think an "off brand" radiator has a vested interest in their part lasting a long time vs. Toyota? It seems most people these days get glassy eyes when it comes to "limited" lifetime warranties, because as we know reading comprehension is tough, and everything in life is a price point purchase.

I guess someone has to keep companies like Moog and Dorman in business.

There’s 2 thin washers behind the flange.

Look... I'm not going to get in another arguement here. But we modify our trucks right? So when every single time a part is mentioned and someone pipes up with (basically) "should have gone OEM"... it gets annoying.

Toyota may have high(ER) quality standards than most... but the parts are still built to the lowest cost possible. I realize some OEM parts are best choice (hence I'm going all Aisian/Denso with the water pump, timing belt, cam seals, etc etc etc) but the radiator is one of those parts I am choosing to replace with a part that is better (and actually more expensive btw) than the OEM part.

With the way we modify our trucks, it baffles me when people are so quick to bow to the OEM gods saying how Toyota OEM parts are "best" because they were "designed" for our trucks.

They may have been "designed" for a Tacoma... but a Tacoma wasn't "designed" to run a lift, with oversized tires, on miles of dirt roads and crawling at or near idle for extended periods of time... therefore, I'm doing what -I believe- is an upgrade to the OEM part.

I like my truck btw... that's why I have owned this truck longer than any other vehicle I have ever owned. I do respect the fact they last... etc. But I bought the truck because It's a mid sized crew cab, it looks nice, parts are (fairly) easy to come by, the truck is one of the easier (post 2000) trucks to work on, and I got it for a good price... NOT because I think Toyota is the greatest ever and their parts are magic.

Really? I didn't even notice. Must have been because my other shaft was shipped without the flange.

Im debating on whether my bed trailer should be a short bed from a Double Cab or a long bed from a Single/Ext Cab. I was thinking of the short bed just based on how long "off-road" trailers are. I felt like if it was a long bed it would look out of place as a trailer.

Someone convince me otherwise - I'm conflicted.

We really don't care what the hell you do to or with your truck, we'd just appreciate if you stop spreading misinformation about parts and such.

I replaced the carrier bearing on a replacement driveshaft that was mistaken as a Tacoma driveshaft but was actually for a Toyota Pickup according to the flange. To ship it he removed the flange from the driveshaft and all I can remember replacing when I did the bearing was only a stake nut.

Now I gotta remove my nice shiny new OEM bearing from that driveshaft and put it on my old PreRunner driveshaft and have it shortened. Local shop charges $160. Not bad.

EDIT: Actually that could be why there weren't any washers. It was a Toyota Pickup driveshaft not a Tacoma.
