    Hello Everyone.

We just bought a used 2016 Tacoma TRD Pro with 30k on the odo. The truck came out of Iowa and they used to to move to MT.

I have read about a few issues with these trucks. Odd transmission shifts, whining rear end, some complaints about odd low in power. Is there anything else I should know about? I plan on skimming through the forum once I post this.

We are still looking through the manuals and trying to figure out each option this truck has. I was surprised to see no remote start? I did see an aftermarket addon that allows you to push the lock 3 times to start. Is that a popular addition?

Lastly, we get cold up here in the winter. -30 (ambient temp) is not unheard of. I am curious about adding a block heater. I watched a video online where they installed one. It seems like a very easy install but you just have to drain the coolant. Do you guys recommend doing this?

Again thanks for the add and I appreciate your time.

Thanks for the links. I could have sworn it was a pro. I guess I will have to look at the window sticker again! Still learning all of the models / options for toyota. I am a Ford guy.

I read that thread and got the engine block part number but I didn't see how to install it. That Kats heater was the one I watched and they had to drained the coolant. Any other help?

I suggest you carefully watch the video again. Perhaps it was a different generic install Katz heater (like lower heater hose one). For the OEM or Katz cartridge one you have to remove an exhaust bracket under the driver side of the engine and plug it in the back side of the block. No draining of the coolant. The only thing that makes it difficult is the tight quarters and that its tough to see. I had to shove my cell phone up in to the area on the back of the block and take photos so that I could see what I was feeling.

There use to be a source selling the OEM one for about $50 on ebay, but I haven't seen that in a while. That is what I used.

Okay that was the same video I watched. At 2:44 I misunderstood him when he talks about the coolant. He slipped up on his words and I heard it as you did have to drain the coolant. Good to know!

I have a 2016 and had the combo meter replaced because the trip meters randomly reset to zero. You might leave the ODO set to trip A or B and see if yours randomly resets.

As far as remote starts there are two good options. 12volt solutions and kb voodoo. You will be happy with either i love my kb voodoo.
