I change mine once a year in my car, Blackstone gave me an excellent report and told me to stick with what I was doing.

Nice results. I’ve been running 10k mile OCI for a number of years now. With periodic Blackstone testing, of course. I’ve found there weren’t much difference between oil brands, as long as they were full syn. I think I tested about every brand. M1 tested just fine, however, it seemed a bit thinner than others and in my sports cars, burned off quicker compared to others, necessitating mid-oil change top offs. Wasn’t a fan of that.

Just had my first Blackstone report done also and after 7500 + they said to go 10k next time. I'm game and this is on an engine with 140k miles on the clock.

Oh and I'm a stickler with my oil brand...i strictly go with the synthetic oil that is on sale.

Why a diesel rated oil per a friend and oil additive package engineer:His preference first syn diesel, then conventional diesel, followed by synth car oils and lastly car dino oil. Anti wear additives at the same levels as a racing oil. But racing oils are low detergent and get thrown out frequently. Diesel formulation oils have high zddp and high detergents. The zero-whatever flow quickly at start when 90 percent of wear occurs. Enough zddp for solid lifters and enough detergent to keep a diesel clean inside. Low loss of viscosity at high temps. Overkill? Sure but why not for the same price? On the downside more likely to poison the cats after 200,000 miles which is why car manufactures demanded lower levels of detergents and anti wear in oils.

I've been changing my oil every 5k, I just didn't like how dark it looks by then so I figured I'd err on the side of caution especially since I drive an MT... May need to look at that Blackstone thing you guys are talking about...

    Thanks for the info OP!

Interesting info. Probably won't change to it in light of the test results, but good info.

It's a known fact that most "full synthetic" brands, aren't really full synthetic. People should read up on it.

I'm an Amzoil brand guy for life. Sure lot's of people have gotten just regular (non-synthetic) oil changes to their cars all of it's life and have had no problems, but now tolerances have hit a new high.

Once you get the test kit, you will then send it back to them and pay $28 for the analysis.

That is absolutely correct, in my experience. I laugh at the folks spending almost $20/qt for motorcycle oils. I grab a jug of synthetic diesel and roll on.

My big question for our 3.5l motors is what to do about the 0w-20 requirement? Rotella T6 seems to be the lightest weight one at 5w-40?

Go to thier website, fill out online form, they send you a kit. You don't pay for anything until you send a sample in.

That's perfectly fine. I have a jug of M1 0w-20 for mine. My question was in reference to the diesel oil comment and what diesel oil folks would used considering the requirement?
