Had both. St maxx about the same ride, 255s are quieter than 285 probably about the same as 265 ko2s, st maxx better off road imo.

I use to run all BF ATs until I tried Cooper won't go back.

Great - thanks for the info. I know KO2's are very popular on this forum, so see what others thought of these compared to them

I have had 265/75/16 ST Maxx and KO2's. ST Maxx's were on my lifted 2015 and the KO2s on my lifted 2016 right now. They are both very well mannered on the road. Similar in road noise and comfort. Both are load range E. However I give the edge to ST Maxx on wet pavement. They didn't break traction as often as the KO2's. Slim margin, but enough worth noting. Both were more than enough for me in my light/medium offroad needs and they both look really good.

You can't go wrong with either tire (tire-wise) IMO. But if you want a tall tire without lifting, I'd say got the ST Maxx route. 255/85 will get you what you want. As this thread demonstrates.

I also wanted white letters out and BFG white letters look better than the ST Maxx's IMO. Plus, I wanted to try the new KO2's. I had heard they were much quieter than the KO's on the road and that was really my only complaint with the KO's. I am a BFG guy myself and the ST Maxx's are up there as one of the best tires I have run on any of my vehicles.

My overall ranking: KO<KO2<ST Maxx. Hope this helps!

What are some of the sites you are purchasing these from. I found them on ebay and at discount tires, but discount doesn't have them right now and i don't see them even listed at tirerack.com.

I bought mine at a Lamb's Tire and Automotive. Not sure they have them in your neck of the woods though.

Edit: That was for 265/75/16. Not sure many places will keep the 255 in stock. Not a very common size.

I crawled under Bruce the other day and took some pictures of how my spare is fitting. It's a 255/85/R16 ST Maxx. Hopefully this helps you guys out!

    20180207_172143.jpg
There's about 3/4 to an inch of room here, and the tire is slightly above it as well.
    20180207_172125.jpg

    20180207_172210.jpg
Hitch receiver, about 1/2" of clearence

    20180207_171351.jpg
Theres seems to be a small spot where it rubs on the diff. As i was taking these pictures I moved the spare towards the rear of the truck an inch or so. It should clear now.
    20180207_172219.jpg
Drivers side, to clear the exhaust I had to push it right up to the leaf spring mount. It does touch here, but nothing moves on what it touches and seems to not be damaging anything.

Just put the 255/85/16 Cooper ST Maxx's on. Took off the mud guards and had absolutely zero issues with clearance. Great tire for this truck.

Opinion question. My oem tires have 20k miles on them. Should I wear them out then get these or get these now and try to sell the oem tires? How many miles should I expect out of the oem tires, any ideas?

I always try to get my money's worth and run them down. I've heard the st Maxx might be discontinued, might be a good reason to buy them now and stick in your shed.

Used OEM tires are worth very little in the resale market.

So after reading all 48 pages......from what I gather is that the 255-85-16’ fit except when you have factory mud flaps up front?? Full flex and all?? ‘17 OR DCSB bone stock with no plans of lifting/ spacers or aftermarket UCAs. I just want a little more ground clearance for moderate off roading and muddy ass hunting lease.
Oh and I don’t care about power or fuel mileage or speedo cal....
    Thanks
    Nate

But what I forgot to say is that I have the factory mud flaps. I want to keep them. Has anyone had luck trimming them? If not I’ll have to go with 235-85-16

Mine were fine on normal driving Off road full flex/turning mine would rub.
I think rubber not hard plastic ones would be fine. If you want to keep factory 235s probably a better choice.

Last question before I pull the trigger. If I had these tires on my off road and I loaded 800-1000 pounds in the bed, which I have done on occasion, is this going to be an issue on factory suspension? I don't tow much, but I do haul lumber or garbage in bed that could be anywhere between 300 and 1200 pounds and on stock suspension and tires, I have never had any issues hauling so that want to hopefully stay that way if possible.

Should be no problem at all. Doesn't change the tow or carry capacity for the box. If you chose heavier tire than stock, remember it takes a bit longer to stop.

Just make sure what ever tire you pick have the same load rating of factory tires or better. Suspension isn't changing and tires can still flex to max without rubbing.
