Same here. Local Sinclair Station has ethanol free so I got a discount card and always fill up there. Sinclair gas is top tier.

And then my brothers accountant did a year long "study" between premium and regular gas and he states his gas mileage was better enough running premium to more than cover the difference in price. I guess I believe him, I mean accountants deal in money and numbers...

1 $7 bottle per oil change should do it. The bottle is a LOT more Techron than you get in a tank of gas.

Sinclair is still around? Oohhhhhmfg. That's a blast from my past. Way back; I remember my dad going there and gas was 27 cents a gallon.

    Ya, old thread I know....

Northern Ohio, at BP stations, the difference between regular and premium is $.80 . You would have to get a hell of a lot more MPG to cover that $16.00 spread!

In New Mexico all gasoline comes from 4 refineries. Only difference is what they put in for additives.
I usually fill up with costco, usually the cheapest but tier 1. I use the Chevron additive from costco but they recently
have only 3 bottles in the box where used to have 10. I use it twice a year.

Same. Been doing it for a couple years now, runs great and a tank lasts slightly longer. Corn lobby be damned.

Also, a wrench extension shouldn't alter torque to any significant degree for something as low key as a spark plug unless the extension has a rotating joint. I've thought about getting a proper torque wrench for peace of mind, but haven't yet.

I just had a long talk with a guy that owns an equipment repair shop. He ran a study on several different fuel brands for the purpose of recommending a fuel for the equipment that he sells in an attempt to lesson the amount of warranty repairs. Ethanol kills engines. Ethanol will increase the amount of carbon which will score cylinders, score pistons and their rings, score valve stems and their guides, and generally wreck havoc. They can put in up to 6% ethanol and still legally call it ethanol free. Ethanol is cheaper to make and that's why they put it in. Ethanol attracts water into fuel. You wouldn't believe how much water is in fuel that has ethanol in it. Ethanol destroys flexible fuel lines. He only runs Chevron premium in his vehicles now because of the additives in it. A local to me independent news station ran tests on the 3 octane grades of fuel available and they found the mid grade to typically have a lower octane rating than the lowest octane rated fuel because the mid grade doesn't sell as much and therefore sits in the gas stations tank for a longer period of time which thereby reduces the octane quantity of the fuel. Avoid mid grade fuel like the plague.

4 Toyota’s so far 350k-400k put on all of them with regular unleaded which where I’m at has 10% ethanol, yep I’ll keep running the cheap stuff.

Ethanol on average is nearly twice the cost to produce per gallon then gasoline.
Ethanol is put into our fuel for political reasons, not for cost savings

Kind of. There is a corn lobby for sure. But there's also a science to it, e.g. https://www.dtnpf.com/agriculture/w...18/04/27/ethanol-groups-weigh-californias-low. Unfortunately the science of low emission gasoline is kinda bad for engine science.

I would be nervous about doing my own root canal.

Spark plugs - no problema. It's just getting stuff out of the way - unscrewing and screwing back in - reconnect stuff you had to get out of the way. Take your time - keep track of what's come off and in what order. Biggest concern is cross-threading spark plug. Start off by hand(extension attached is OK). Turn slowly and stop if it doesn't want to go in all the way on it's own.

The additive I put in my gas tank is.....gasoline.

That's fine waxin' and opinin', but kinda defeatist tho. Millions of acres in the US are dedicated to growing corn specifically for two things that technically do not want or need corn: cattle and engines. It's bitter sweet thinking about all the possible things we could do better with that land that didn't involve growing unnecessary crops for a supersaturated market and throwing money into the abyss that's come to characterize the political process. Or at the very least, it would be nice to see actual farmers get a higher fraction of the kickback.

Ethanol-free gas became available in my area a year or so ago. Costs about 50 cents a gallon more than Ethanol 87 octane regular.
I tried 3 or 4 tanks of the stuff in the Tacoma. No MPG improvement and the butt dyno did not notice any improvement.
My lawn equipment/chains saws/etc. run better on Ethanol-free.

Like @gotoman1969, I've put a lot of trouble-free miles on my vehicles using the Ethanol-laced fuel and have had no trouble that I can pin on Ethanol.
