Idiot bust a hole in my floor board...

Some of ya'll know I just bought a 5.0 mustang. Well The idiot I bought it from jacked the car up on the floor board. I was wondering if this type of metal is weldable? or what would you do.

This is under my drivers seat.

 

Man I would be pissed.
-I would think it's weldable.

 

If it were me, for the $100 a new floor panel costs, I'd buy one from one of the Mustang parts suppliers and weld it in. That way you know you have an entirely new floor on that side of the car, and you won't have to worry about it for as long as you own the car. I like Mustangs Unlimited.

 

I think you'll have to replace that area, maybe patch it on both sides. I've replaced floor pans before and it wasn't difficult (in older cars).

 

Kinda looks like it's all rusted out. Welding probably won't work.

 

I have a 72 chevelle that had a floor in worse shape. I'd get the replacement floor panel and either weld it in or swing by a ford dealer and get the putty they use to install floor pans. Its similar to JB weld. I welded my floor pan in then when it came time to do my trunk I used the putty supplied to me by the dealer. If you use the putty you must leave some of the old floor in to overlap it with the new. I puttied the lip and then placed the new floor on top, for added help I put a few rivets in there to hold it nice and tight.

 

Well, The rust isn't that bad. I think, But we are going to attempt it tomorrow during my lunch break...I have an awesome welder here at my plant.

 

Good luck, but I really think you're putting a band-aid over an issue that requires some more attention than that, in the long run. If you're going to own the car for a long time and want to know that it's done right, I'd look long and hard into some new floors for it. It's really not that hard, especially if you have contacts that can weld.

 

Well, I ment to say im gonna band aid it now. BUT!! im gonna get it fixed right before I take my car in for body work and paint. That's in about a year. So yes im gonna get it done right soon. Right now im all about the engine.

 

Good idea on putting in new floors before you get it painted. A little bit of advice from someone who has done what you're getting ready to do on a Mustang...when you do get the body work/paint done, if at all possible, strip it as much as you can (pull interior and engine, etc.) and get it all done right, the first time. I got mine painted with the interior and engine in, and it was a big mistake. I'm actually going to pull everything in the next few years and get it repainted again, the correct way. Learn from me.
