You really don't need a block heater unless you are living above the arctic circle using it to keep the fluids liquid. Toyota has a fairly quick heat up time and has an electric element built in to the climate control that will give you cabin heat long before the engine heats up. Get a remote start, start it up ten minutes before you leave in the morning and move on.
We have synthetic oil so oil viscosity at cold temps is not an issue either. Welcome to the forum!

I should say so, the truck is quite capable right out the box and as is. But I have upgraded the sound, grill & shift knob and a few other cash draining perks here & there. :D

Moreover, an engine block heater won’t help the transmission, axles, p/s and shock fluids. The truck ought to still be operated at normal/moderate speeds for a few miles before these fluid warm up to their optimum. This past weeks I woke my truck to 16*F and I could tell the difference in my shocks alone from the 80*F awakenings in the summer.

    Cheers!

Question with the voodoo. Do the doors lock when its running? If you unlock and open the doors does it die?

Doors will lock. It turns off when you open the door.

I have never owned a battery wrap, just a block heater on all of my vehicles. It just makes for easier starts and quicker "warmups" when it gets super cold. Again our winters can get quite chippy.

Okay. Bummer it dies when you open the door. It would be nice if it was able to keep running. I don't like starting and shutting off motors like that.

A lot of those covers came on the trucks from the dealer. If you search on eBay and CL you can find them for about 600-800 bucks that are the genuine toyota made ones. There are plenty of aftermarket ones out there though that are just as good or better.

There is a guy who has a OEM takeoff and he wants 200$ for it. Bought his truck new and took it off a month later. Problem is he doesn't live close to me. Almost 4hrs away...

Dude. That's like 50 bucks in gas. No big deal. I make 600 mile trips every few weeks. Make sure you know to trade him bed rails unless he already got new ones.

True We just had a major snow storm roll in. Expected 15" of snow here locally. If it clears up next week or so I will contact him.

Can you elaborate on how it mounts? I will go try and look it up.

It is one 12mm bolt on the passenger side in the front and then there are six mounts that screw onto the side of the bed that serve as the attachment points. BE SURE HE SENDS THESE WITH YOU! If not, you'll be up a dang creek until you buy some more mounts. Even if the guy doesn't you can find them on the toyota website for like 75 bucks I think.

Welcome to TW TTM556, you'll learn to love your truck, hope your bank acct is full!
There are a lot of folding bed covers, I went with the BaKflip mx4, there's an install video on ************************, vendor on here, cheapest place and great customer service also. I like it, it sits level with bed rails, folds up to cab if needed, install pretty easy, you can carry 400lbs. on it! So snow won't be a problem. I live in Hawaii so I only deal with rain, thank God.....it does leak a little from the rails, but I'm going to remove the rails and put a bead of silicone and put it back, so whatever cover you get, if it has bolt down rails do the silicone on the bed rail before installing, all brands leak someplace. IMG_0026.jpg Sorry for rambling, home alone, wife went shopping for SuperBowl tomorrow....had too many drinks already, by the way, it's 3:15pm, 80*F and clear....have a good one! Aloha
