Anyone running this set up? I've read countless threads about people running the 6112/5160 set up, but can't find anything on 6112/5100. I personally don't want to run a reservoir, hence why I don't want the 5160s in the rear. Thinking about going with 5100s in rear with no reservoirs.
Any info on this set up would be great. Thanks

I just put 5100 in the rear of my truck with icon aal and left the overload in. Rides great. My front is 5100 with ome 887. So different front. But rear is great!

Just out of curiosity, why don't you want to run a reservoir?

6112/5160 are the best pairing. I have 6112/5125 and feel that the 5125s in the rear are "under gunned" for the 6112s in the front.
Would do 5160s, if I had to do it again.
    Spend once, cry once.

Must say....the 6112s are pretty badass.

Good question, I figured it was going to be asked at some point. I'm not really a fan of the look, I don't want to mount a reservoir to the frame, nor do I want a piggyback. Plus the price is a huge increase, almost 3x the price for the 5160s in the back vs 5100.

Ya I've read the 6112s vs 5100 up front are a night and day difference. Thanks for the info

I am running the set up you are talking about. In the rear I am running the extended 5100s (b110). The thing with the 5160s Is they are short along with a lot of other higher end remote reservoir shocks. Thus if you have a decent lift the shock will end up being pretty far extended thus limiting droop and the rear suspension not working to it's full potential. If they made the 5160s in an extended version I would be all over them.

Nice! How do you like this setup? How does the back compare to the front? Side note what notch on the 6112s are you on?

Thier really not THAT short though....compare them to Fox 2.0's ....what is it a 1/2"? On the 2-3" rear option. Thier very much comparable. You guys talk 1/2-3/4" longer Ext. is gonna change everything out there.

I am all the way up with the 6112 and running Toytec's aluminum top to get a true 3" of lift. I like it so far I could use a larger body shock for the rear for when I get onto a lot of the dirt and fire roads I go on for camping but the dampening seems to be really good. I just want the larger body because they hold more oil and the valving is larger and doesn't heat up as quickly and the dampening is usually better. But if you are 90% pavement then I wouldn't worry about it. Check the specs of the compressed and extended lengths of the shocks you are looking at you don't want to be so low that the shocks don't have enough compression and you don't want to be lifted so much you don't have enough rebound or droop.

No but it is not the correct set up. Do get a correct shock set up you need to have your vehicle at ride height measure the shock mounting point to mounting point, put the suspension on full compression and measure again then at full rebound or droop then measure again. This gives your total shock travel and ~ total lengths collapsed and extended. You should choose a shock that gives you ~1/3 of travel in compression and ~2/3 in rebound. This is by far not a hard and fast rule but a good starting point. And you do not want your shocks to be the limiting factor in your suspension nor the compression you want either your suspension travel to be or some other form of limiting factor like bump stops or straps.

My bumps are my limiting factor not my shock.

In compression but what is your limiting factor in droop I bet that your shocks are if you are @ 3" of lift or more. The b110 are almost 3in longer than any of the standard shocks on the market not 1/2" or 3/4"

If you go to the suspension subforum there is a 6112 thread. Plenty of people run 5100s in the rear...

I'm about 2 3/4" with Dakars.....never really cared it's been 2 years and never had a problem. Everything looks exactly the same as it was 2 years ago.

It's not about looks unless you have taken your shocks apart and looked at the pistons to see if they are ok. Just looking from the outside doesn't tell you everything. I am informing the OP about how to go about properly selecting the right length shock for application.
