That would look good! Making me question my decisions lol.

I was thinking of 215 85r16 tires which would be about 3.5"s taller and an inch narrower than what I have now. The taco wheels might be too wide for those but it would look good!

Looking to improve the trailer suspension a bit (not expecting to work any miracles). I'll add some basic gas shocks to reduce sway but the big problem appears to be these bump stops about 2"s away from the leaf springs. I'm thinking of using the Daystar stinger bumps. Nothing fancy but at least it would be an upgrade to a progressive bump and won't rattle the trailers teeth every time it hits a pot hole. @JerryTaco I know you have some bump stop experience. Do you think it's OK for the bump to strike the axle tube directly or do I need to come up with some kind of striker plate? The bumps I'm looking at are like 11.25" extended and 7" collapsed so I really don't need a striker plate to make them fit.

You'll definitely need a striker plate for sure. Not that your trailer weighs a ton but contacting the axle directly could damage the axle

Copy, thanks for the heads up. I wonder if I can use something as simple as a spring perch to distribute the load?

I’m watching this trailer mod session of yours closely. That Timbren set up looks very intriguing.

Yeah this is for sure going down! I've been trolling govplanet recently looking for a military trailer to turn into an expo style rig but the more Ive been thinking about it, it doesn't make much sense to build a trailer we'd realistically use 1-2 times a year since we'd still want to bring the amenities of the Jayco 90 percent of the time. My plans are to ruggedize what we have now with the realistic goals of making it more washboard road, rut and pothole worthy. By no means will it be a real trail trailer but should be a sweet compromise.

I really like the Timbren set up but did contact Morryde who has something similar just because I like to have a comparison if possible. If I dont hear back from morryde I'll order the Timbrens on Tuesday. Also thanks @Jorgy1 for the idea I should be acquiring TRD OR wheels and tires for the trailer from @hellppy.

Definitely stay tuned lots of changes coming!

Sweet! I look forward to the results. I’m kinda in the same boat as my wife and I purchased a Starcraft 19bhs extreame last summer. It’s got good ground clearance with the extreame package, but not awesome on the wash board stuff. Was thinking of also doing the expo trailer in addition to the Starcraft, but once you become accustomed to those amenities it’s hard to coincide a trip without them. I think your rugged-Ize approach is definitely the way to go.

Definitely. I love to camp but it's so nice to wake up in a warm bed and be able to use the restroom, make coffee and breakfast and not have to go out in the rain.

I did some measuring and only had about 1.5 inches of travel before the leaf would contact that non progressive bump stop and almost no drop when jacked up. Also a little bit more shocking info Ive discovered about our trailer. GVWR is 3600, dry weight is 2800, tires rated at 1900 and I actually found the the axle weight is only rated 3500lbs. So loaded with water and all the toys we are at the axle and suspensions absolute max!!! The tires have some small wiggle room but doesn't make me comfortable knowing that! I spoke with a timbren rep and they recommended moving up to a 5200lb suspension/hub system which should make things more comfortable. The trailers chassis is box steel so the upgrade shouldn't be an issue. Also upgrading to 12" brakes vs the 10.

I like the 19bhs allot. The rear slide is awesome and double axle is good for the size too. I bet it pulls nice!

That is scary what your axle is rated for. The big RV manufactures definitely cut a lot of corners and cheap out. Ya, my 19 does pull nice. I’m at about 5000lbs all loaded up, and it pulls WAY better than my old off road popup did that was several thousand pounds lighter. I was terrified when enroute to Montana to pick the 19 up, but was amazed at how the Taco handles it.

    Double Damnit Monday!

Timbren suspension is on back order until March 1st and realized during a mock up I forget to account this 1x2 piece of box steel the spring hangers are attached to.
    20180212_100323.jpg
The timbrens need 3, 5/8" holes 1.5 inch above the bottom of the frame. I was just going to grind the spring hangers off but didnt account that piece of 1x2 they are welded too. That 1x2 puts the 5/8" holes too close for comfort to the bottom of the frame. I'd grind the whole 1x2 off but I need that inch to clear the LT 235 85r16 falken at3s.... Long story long I found some welding assistance today....
