Very cool.

 

Picked up a metal chop saw on Craigslist for $30. Really made my project go more quickly and smoothly. Best $30 I’ve spent in a while. The saw is from an era when things were built to last.

 

Bagged the tallest (from surrounding ground level) sand dune in North America this morning!

 

Making another tool. Any guesses.

 

Some of my last guesses give you ideas?

 

Anyone have any ideas of how I may close this s hook around the chain with common tools I may already have on hand? I already tried clamping it in vice to squeeze it closed and hitting it with a sledge hammer. This thing is a tough little bugger.

Are you using a block or something to put all the pressure on just the tip?

 

Do you have bolt cutters?
Those things have crazy leverage.

Try putting the half of the section you trying to smash down on the vise. Use pliers to hold it not your hand and focus the hit on the end of the piece with a hammer. It will work. Sqeezing it won’t work you’ll have to hit it. Unless you use heat like Eric said.
