Went from: OEM BFG Rugged Trail in P265/70R16

    To: Cooper Discoverer AT3 P265/70R16

Still running 29psi front, 32psi rear.

The AT3s are marginally heavier, have a wider tread, and are slightly louder at highway speeds. I went with black sidewalls out, but the sidewall design is really quite flashy compared to the OEM BFGs. They balanced fine with I think 2oz as the max amount of weight used for one of the wheels.

Engine get-up-and-go feels a bit affected. Seems like I need more gas to get rolling, and my totally unreliable and inaccurate perception of gas mileage says that the truck is already getting worse MPG.

However, because the tread is a bit wider, the truck feels more planted and less squirmy/flicky. Going over pot holes and buckles is less jarring.

I drove on some gravel roads today and the AT3s sure love to pick up pebbles and then fling them into the fender liners once you're back on the pavement.

I'll give the truck some time to acclimate, and I'm sure that the tires still need to 'scrub in' a bit and round out. I see no reason why these won't make it all the way to the 60k warranty mark -- there's tons of tread depth and the compound doesn't seem overly soft.

I was considering going with the BFG AT KO2 in Load Range E, but now I'm really glad I didn't -- I can only imagine how much louder and harsher those are for ride quality.

OP, got any pics of the black sidewalls out? :boink:

I am now considering these for our '07 2wd 4 banger after reading a review on Expo Portal where they came out the winner. The test was from 2014, so definitely not up to date...had the old Falkens, KOs, etc...still they had glowing praise for the Cooper AT3...

OP, that's a nice looking tire. If you, or anyone else gets rolling in some snow/ice conditions, can you post feedback?

I've had mine on for about 2 weeks now. Running 285/75-18 and I have had 0 hydroplane issues even when trying and drove over the pass in snow/ice conditions a couple days ago. They gripped very well on the slick highway but I haven't been off-road in the snow yet.

Nice! Any chance I could get a pic from a bit further out with the truck more in frame overall? I'm trying to get an idea of the look of white-in look with these tires on those wheels since that's the combo I'll be doing next week.

I read through the entire thread...main takeaway...avoid the p-rated Cooper AT3s like the plague. They don't hold up over 30K...OP recommends LT rated.

Anyone here have comments on the Cooper AT3 vs. Falken AT3W? It wouldn't be apples to apples as I'd be looking at the Coops in LT C-rated and the Falkens don't come LT in the 235/75R15s that we're upsizing to...

I had a chance to take these on a long drive today. Mostly interstate speeds between 70-80MPH.

VERY smooth, VERY quiet on smooth roads. Tracks very straight.. almost too well. At those speeds, if you jolt the wheel one direction slightly, the truck basically self-corrects. Wide/flat tread profile seems to cause this.

In light rain, they are really no better than the OEM BFGoodrich tires. I was easily able to spin out when rolling from a stop and trigger the VSC. That being said, I was flying on the interstate at 80 with rain and felt like I had tons of control, so they channel water away well.

No idea on longevity, but 40K seems like a fair guess given how I drive. That's probably OK since I will want to try a new tire by then LOL.

Just found out today...the ATP is only made for Discount Tire whereas the AT3 is made for general circulation (according to my local Discount Tire guy). The sidewall is a little different, too.

@Ridgeline001 - Are you running LT or P rated?
