I tried to get in the 1.03 testing, didn’t happen. I’m not too concerned about it since he has a Tacoma now! I’m sure 1.03 will be wonderful

So after I uploaded the 1.02A 91 octane I'm seeing 19.1mpg highway doing 65 with a 6" lift and 285/75R17(34x11.5). Which is up from about 17. anyone else seeing good mpg gains?

I just ordered mine and am anxiously awaiting its arrival.

This is what I like to hear. Not surprised after reading OVs blog post about the crazy number of misfires on the stock tune. My mpgs were great in the beginning, but have steadily decreased over the last 6 months.

yeah I'm far from a mileage guy but when you get a big performance bump AND a bit of a mileage improvement at the same time, that's note worthy.

Any gain in mpg is just more icing on the cake. Truck drives great now and I'm seeing 19.1mpg cruising in 5th. If I could get it into 6th I'm sure I would see 20mpg. I'm also going to be installing 4.3 gears in my auto

I'm not trying to over gear it and end up with worst mileage. If you look at the math, 4.3 gears are the closest I'll get to a stock gear ratio with the bigger tires. 10% bigger tire means my final drive is about a 3.5. So going to a 4.3 would put me back to about a 3.9 to the ground. That's if my math is even close to being right.

I don’t chase mpgs either. I’m a simple guy and expect things to make sense. The facts that my mpgs are always unpredictable and don’t correlate with right foot use drives me crazy.

I think the team at Toyota who designed this black box were dropping tabs or eating shrooms during development and then outsourced testing to a bunch of people who were scared to tell Toyota it sucked.

I have 1.02 A 91 running stock everything and only get 16 to 18 but it seemed better when the tune was first loaded.
This is on a TRDOR 4dr. SB.

Yep. They spent so much time and resources on making sure the world knew they were putting an Atkinson cycle engine in their new trucks that they completely forgot about tuning the truck to be useful.

    Right!
Push right foot = more throttle, and repeatable and consistent throttle v. pedal position seems like a basic principle. I can’t imagine flying helicopter operating like this truck - especially when landing on a moving ship. F that!!!

My other vehicle is a 17 4runner with the dual VVTI 4.0. I can only hope 1.03 will make the little 3.5 have the low end power like the T4R. :fingerscrossed:

I'm in absolute amazement at how Toyota could have screwed up this truck so bad. More pedal, more throttle....Smooth gear changing...this is basic, basic stuff.

I'm triggered anytime I hear any auto journalist or Toyota engineer-guy say "Atkinson cycle". Shut up already. The fuel economy still sucks.
