Almost any winch that can be done with a remote solenoid will work.

Negative. You can drive to parts of it, but once you hit the wilderness boundary, roads cease to exist and you share the same trail as the animals.

Spots on the trail I've driven to, are up at stampede pass by the radio towers, back side of snoqualmie pass at windy acres, and I'm pretty sure it crosses up by the van epps mine trail past salmon la sac too. Never packed it from one spot to the others.

The PCT also crosses the Naches trail at Government Meadows. Fun fact - if you go there in September, you can run into a bunch of smelly hippies that are hiking from Mexico to Canada.

Dang! Thanks guys. Hoping it’d be a nice trail similar to the WABDR

Nah. I’d say hit the IDBDR instead of the WABDR if you have the time.. personally I found it much better in every way besides the drive to get there. Less people and scenery were the biggest things

Possibly driving to Salt Lake City this weekend to pick up a bed slide. Anyone have any recommendations on some quick spots to stop?

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
You could probably do it on a dirt bike, but the forest circus and hippies would have a lynch mob waiting for you at the end.

Off topic, but my sister and her boyfriend set out to do it last March, starting in Mexico. They made it up into Southern Oregon (Ashland area) before my sister's hips started giving out on her. She went to the doctor, took a couple weeks off, and tried to get back at it but only lasted another two days before she couldn't stand up in the morning. Her boyfriend continued from Ashland solo and made it up to the Willamette Pass trailhead before calling it quits until she can complete the rest with him some day.

Their stories of going through the Sierra Nevadas are pretty nuts. Pulled some Finnish lady out of a river when she fell over and couldn't get back up. Her husband froze under pressure and was just standing on the bank screaming.

    Death Valley 2018: Day 4
You Don't See This Every Day

... around 1:00am, the wind got significantly colder, and we started
to feel moisture in the air. We didn't realize it at the time as
we zipped up the remaining windows, but the moisture we were feeling was snow...

So yeah - we went to Death Valley to escape the cold, and we got snowed on.

You don't see that every day.
