Was looking for a 6x12 for the longest. This thread helped me a lot. Wanted it for carrying ATVs and throwing a mat to sleep in. Couldnt do a toy hauler because theyre too heavy for my taco. At 1400 empty i dont plan on over loading it. Bought it at Gilroy and drove it home near King City Ca about 70 miles. Kept up at speed limit without forcing itself. Went up a couple of uphills with no problem. I feel this is a perfect size and I wouldnt go bigger than that

1800 lb trailer with electric dual axle brakes and approximately 4000lb Jeep with big axles, 33” tires and tons of armor. Did the test run today, I’m going from NY to TN and back in late March. We are hoping to find an aluminum trailer to use for the run to make it a little easier but I was very impressed with acceleration, braking and handling overall.

Anything helping the rear suspension? Not much squat from the looks of it.

Nope bone stock, had the correct amount of tongue weight and it drove nicely at 60mph. The rear of the truck was sitting about 1” lower than the front.

2016 Tacoma TRD 4x2 towing 2018 Airstream 23CB the trailer is about 5000lbs loaded, 8 feet wide; using an Equalizer anti-sway hitch. Handles beautifully with no after-market suspension work and the axle weights are all within Toyota factory specs. Getting about 10-13 mpg towing, depending on terrain, no sway issues in wind or with passing trucks, most likely due to the aerodynamic design of the trailer. Doing a couple of big trips later in the summer (Sou Cal to Montana, Sou Cal to Northern NM) so we'll see how the combination handles longer distances. Only wish the Tacoma had a bigger fuel tank.

That's pretty impressive there's no sway in wind of when passing. I get some when towing my boat which weighs the same as your airstream. No WD hitch on my setup though

How do you like the 23FB? I think this is going to be my next big purchase.

Caught a bad typo. Trailer is actually a 23CB. Was all set to pull trigger on the “FB” model and wife and I decided the additional lounge space on the CB model was more desirable than the big front bedroom on the FB. There’s a 9” difference in length between the two 23-footers and the CB has slightly higher tongue weight. We find the 23CB a terrific size for what we do and it fits perfectly in our driveway. Both models of the 23 are big sellers and new ones with your preferred color combination may be tough to find...reportedly most of Airstream’s 2018 production run is either sold or spoken for. The 23-foot Airstream is the largest I would put behind my Tacoma...any Airstream longer than 23’ is also wider.

How much squat do you get if any with the Equalizer Hitch? To distribute the weight, did you have to add a washer for head angle or raise the support brackets to get added tension? The 23CB has been the trailer I’ve been looking to purchase but the tongue weight scared me. In their literature it’s almost 300# more then the 23FB which seems crazy. Have you weighed your tongue to see if the published weights are accurate?
    Looks fantastic!

The setup on the Equalizer hitch was all done by the local AS dealer and I defer to their expertise. I am going there next week for a very minor warranty item and plan to run the whole weight and balance thing past the new service manager simply to get a fresh set of eyes on the numbers. Enroute, I'm stopping by a public scale to re-figure the axle weighs since the trailer is now fully-outfitted, and last time I weighed, the fresh water tank wasn't topped. Going to have the tongue weight done by the dealer in this configuration and we'll see where that leads..I'm guessing I am just below factory recommended maximum. I have owned the trailer for three months, have hauled it somewhere pretty regularly, in the mountains and on flat interstates, and it tows exceptionally well with the Tacoma. A friend with a lot of towing expertise said in very un-engineer terms "if there's a problem with this combination you'll feel it immediately..." and I haven't felt anything abnormal in the steering or control. I'll let you know what my visit to the dealer reveals next week...

Curious what tow mirrors you use to pull the Airstream or does the slightly narrower 23 not require with the Tacoma. Seems there are no good options for tow mirrors that look good and aren’t the stap type.

I use the Dometic clamp on style. Very secure with very little vibration at highway speeds. A little more money but the mirrors are large and replacement parts are available plus it comes with a carry bag.

Was gonna order the Dometic clamp-ons this week; have not found them necessary but want them just for an added margin of safety (and teaching my wife about trailering).

My Coachmen Freedom Express 192RBS is 8ft wide. I really like the adjustability of the Dometic clamp on’s. I decided to go with a Taddybrothers wireless rear camera setup for my extra safety margin.
