You’ll learn in time. Photoshop is probably better to watch some YouTube videos on what you’d like to do with it.

Ya I agree there are some tutorials on Lightroom but not very many. I do subscribe to art of visuals and use some of there free presets to use as a base for editing. So far the hardest part for me is really learning the camera body and Iso, etc

    Thoughts on the 200-500?

Have you used other super telephotos that you could compare it to, say the 150-600s or similar?

    Been looking at Nikon 200-500, Sigma 150-600, Tamron 100-400, Nikon 300 F4 PF, Nikon 300 F4 AFS.

This is my first true telephoto lens. It's heavy, but feels very well built. I don't have any problems carrying it, but my girlfriend does. That being said, I had to get used to it when swinging around to get different shots, but now i'm used to it. I am be all means an amateur photographer so take everything with a grain of salt. I love it, and continue to shoot with it almost exclusively when doing wildlife or general photography. The price is bang on too, for only about 1300 dollars. The only other lens i have is the standard 24-120 F4 lens. I'll be updating to the 35mm f2.8 soon for general landscape photos soon.

not my picture, but thats my Tacoma and telescope in the foreground... taken last night at Montebello Open Space Preserve, on the spine of the SF Peninsula, above Palo Alto. The nasty sky glow on the right is SF and the rest of the bay area, but the sky to the west was reasonably dark. center of picture is looking north-west.

I like the price point of the 5600, my wife will probably use it some as well. What performance features does the 7100 have over the 56?

You have dual dials on it for aperture and shutter speed, a better sensor and speed. better ISO capability along with the motor in the camera where you can use the "D" lenses that don't have the motors in them and can same you some money for some nice glass.

The 5600 is a entry camera and the 7100 falls under the enthusiast category which will mean more features on board that will last you longer for things you will want to do in the future. The 5000 line as a whole is a small camera. I had a 7000 which is bigger and feels a lot better in your hand.

The 7100 has dual slots for 2 SD cards. You can shoot longer or you can use the second slot as a backup from the fist card so it will same the photo to both at the same time. Or you can shoot 2 different formats such as RAW on one and jpeg on the other.

The 3d tracking if you use it will be better on the 7100 with the ability to use all 51 focus points vs the 39 on the 5600. You also have full /advanced CLS (Creative Lighting System) control with the 7100.

They both have their good points but after using both series the 7000 series feels better in the hand and is overall a camera that will last you a lot longer as you grow in photography.

Using a 5300 series camera before it was awkward for me to use it in manual control with a single dial on the camera. Basically it uses the same dial for both shutter speed and aperture with you having to press/hold a button to get use of the aperture on the dial. Is the 5600 a easier camera to use if you just want to pick it up and put it in program, maybe. When I'm spending the kind of money these cost I'm looking for something that will last me for when I outgrow what I know now and want to try those really cool new things. Nothing sucks more than seeing something really cool and want to try it but the camera won't allow you to do that. Or you want those really cool shots with the background al blurred and creamy looking. Well now you have a choice of a lens that's $100 (No motor inside) or having to buy the $200 version (motor inside). The 7100 can use either one. 5600 has to use the G lens with the motor inside. Usually I would say spend your money on the glass to go on the camera body but when you're talking about a camera body that can do so much more for little difference in price I'd always recommend going with the better body first. After you have the camera body, spend the money on the glass to go on it. A entry camera is just that. Something to start with that you know will be replaced. Most will be hard pressed to out grow the 7100 unless you are going to full frame camera's. Then you're in a whole other ballgame though.
