What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Getting a thud when I let off the brakes after I have to get on them bit, like at a sudden stoplight or something.

I’m gonna assume it’s carrier bearing related because I havent took have time to change it, again, also need find a torque wrench. Hopefully tomorrow morning.

 

Usually it's axle wrap that causes that thunk noise, but you have super heavy duty alcans or something right?

 

Alcans ya, my carrier bearing as a bunch of movement and has been giving me issues since I replaced it. I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that it’s happening now.

like an idiot I accidentally touched brake lube onto the face of my brand new ceramic pads. They are duralast golds so do you think this falls under warranty? lol *facepalm*.

 

I tried those pads.....they sucked ass....hope you have better luck than me....once you get the fluid problem fixed.

 

Passenger side valve cover gasket is straight dripping oil on to the header. Guess they are going to need replaced sooner than I had planned...

 

Define "off roading"

Seems like you could just put an all terrain tire and start exploring mellow trails and work your way up.

 

Yeah, they didn't make it long on my truck before squeaking. Now I have squeaking pads with ~75% of their life left. Gonna just replace all the nonsense with Tundy brakes and EBC pads and rotors.

Do you still have the files or measurements from when you made your skid plate? I'm looking to make one but I'm not sure the file I scrounged up is correct, something seems off.

 

I still get that thud noise to and i just put all pro expos on my truck. Let me know if swapping the carrier bearing does the trick.

 

It literally just started doing it yesterday, if it is my springs that’ll be beyond frustrating.

Well, when you are installing the supercharger would be a great time to do them!

 

Is there a definit way to tell these are bad? There was a lot of movement when I would shake the drive shaft or whatever so I’m pretty positive.

 

While on the top of a mountain off-roading with 2 other rigs, one of the rigs blew a radiator. The plastic part gave out before he could really tell anything on the dash idiot gauge. We JB welded it to get us down and then he swapped it for an all aluminum.

 

But of the aluminum goes bad, you are screwed......

 

Or if the brittle ass plastic didn't blow before the gauge showed he was getting hot....

 

Yeah, I remember that I had to modify the section that mounted to the front bumper though. The way they have it on here it was making contact with the radiator. I had to add a downward section and from that and then it was good with the measurements. I also would not trust the angels. I tacked the skid plate and mounted it on my truck and then made some more welds to hold it in place then welded it out. Had to add this section.

Probably put this on the never ending mod list haha. Noticed my temp climbing by 5-10 degrees at half throttle up hills. Moved the light bar to allow more air flow. But it probably needs more cooling due to lugging around it's own fat ass haha
