Which Long Travel Suspension is better and WHY?

That's not a bad idea... maybe I could get a company to sponsor my truck and we could start "mall running" comp's!

I have nothin' on the 2WD prerunner LT trucks, but I like to go places that honda civics running drugs can't get to as well

I bent my stock spindles and LCA's last week so I'm going AP LT next week when I can trailer the truck down there.

It's the strongest system for the four wheel drive trucks and is way better than the mid travel set up. Not gonna hang with prerunners with 16 to 20 inches up front, but then again it retains the ability to do trails, rocks, and mud.

I'm shooting for durability here not looking to race the 500

 

I like the looks of the All Pro kit, but not exactly happy with some of their products in person. So that said, I'd probably go with the TC setup since I still need 4wd and the ability to run trails.

 

TC offers a kit that only 2" over (same as all pro) for FJ's. i would think 2nd gen tacoma's could run the kit as well. i wonder why they cant.

All Pro is a waste IMO. Aftermarket Coilovers get 10" of travel when all pro only pulls 12", so you pay an extra $4,000 for an extra 2"? Sounds stupid to me.

 

Just throwing in coilovers and a set of uca's yields ten inches of travel that you can't use...the stock components of the IFS cannot handle the abuse.

 

Maybe you're right, the new Lower Control Arms and mild steering upgrade is worth 4k

 

For those who wheel their trucks hard enough, the stock components of the IFS will eventually break, so you're going to end up replacing them anyways. The AP LT kit is as much about gaining strength (and some height) over stock as it is gaining travel.

The kit runs $3300, not $4K... It's replaces UCA's, LCA's, extends axles, extends brake lines, replaces tie rods with much beefier tie rods, and gussets your spindles. You eliminate most of the weakness up front and gain some travel.

But I could see if you're in a 4x4 and not wheeling hard enough to exceed the capabilities of the stock IFS parts why it would be a waste of your money. If you're in a 2 wheel drive, you obviously have more choices and more travel available. Illustrative of the whole different strokes for different folks concept...

 

i see where youre coming from, but one could say the same about the TC 4x4 LT kit..... it yeilds 13" of travel as it states on their site.

"The long travel kit will provide a true 13” of usable wheel travel while retaining 4wd. TC offers custom machined 4340 extended axles that will need to be reinserted into the factory inner and outer CV joints to retain 4wd."

Now, my opinion doesnt really matter because i dont have any experience with LT, but I like the TC kit for its proven durability, but i like the 2" wider track width of the AP............ I wish TC made the 2" kit for the tacoma because then id be set with my decision.....

Mxpatriot, Thanks for all your posts in this thread. I have read all your points and I am inclined to agree with them. The only person on TW that I know of with the AP LT 4x4 kit that I know of is Tom (Monkeyproof).

I'm not a fan of AP's other products but the 4x4 LT kit seems like the best of both worlds. The fact that we wouldn't have to run fiber fenders is a major selling point for me. I need my truck to look civilized. I need to see this kit on a Tacoma before I buy it... I hear they offer 10% discounts from time to time.

there are a few people that have ap lt. ask Tom how much he paid for his lt(nothing) and see what kind of deals he gets from all pro hense the big sticker on the front window.

Yes Tom, frequently promotes their products on TW, and not that it is bad, but I always take it with a grain of salt too.

 

lazy, vitang just got his put on, one of Tom's freind has it, his name is Denny but i don't remember his user name. they don't really come on here that often. people can take what i have with a grain of salt, i don't promote anyone and each is their own. people like camburg,chaos,engage or all pro go for it. it's your money.

I looked into how Tom got his LT kit. The kit was valued at ($2795) but since he won it it was no cost to him. But I think he had to cough up the cash for the shocks ($1395), extended axle shafts ($495) and the bump stops too ($169). I'm definitely not a fan of the big AP stickers though... I would need to be paid a lot of money annually for that.

 

people sell awesome stuff on here all the time. I would hardly consider this a valid reason as to why the AP kit is a bad one.
