Followed this upgrade tutorial and worked out really well. All plug and play with wiring and mounts included from Crutchfield.

You will need an adapting plate for both speakers, ********* and Crutchfield both have them.

I bought the Crutchfield speakers in the above link. The install was not exactly straightforward but I did get them in to my satisfaction after solving several issues. The sound was good. Most improvement in the speaker upgrade was the dash speakers. I used the ones recommended that are Subaru WRX upgrades. They were truely plug and play. They alone made a tremendous amount of difference.
One thing that was apparent to me after performing this upgrade was how cheap the OEM speakers were. I bet they didn't cost $5 for the lot. Toyota is really screwing folks with those. $40K for a new truck with $5 worth of speakers. I guess out of sight out of mind.

The factory speakers are pretty well matched to the factory head unit. While I agree that they look cheap, they are neodymium speakers which are inherently lighter/ smaller. If you're going to the trouble of upgrading, I'd advise you to add an amp and some higher powered speakers. You'll be much happier with the results. Most aftermarket speakers will be made for much larger amounts of power than you'll receive from the factory deck, and often actually sound worse than OEM if nothing else is upgraded.

Ya i have store credit. well spend over $420 get $210 off. So I am thinking about the 2 sets of door speakers. I already own a couple amps i can install with the addition of a JL stealthbox at a later date. I have the tweeters in my cart on Amazon just waiting to pull the trigger.
I dont want to buy the door speakers and then struggle with the install later and it be out of return time etc.
Any help on what fits well and what does not is helpful also.
    Thanks

I read somewhere you need a ( bypass) thingy to change how the head unit sends out its frequency? ?????

You can either get a bypass thingy (aka line output converter) or buy an amp that takes speaker level inputs. Mr. Marv has helped many on this site and you can find a lot of his sage advice/ happy customers in the audio section.

I swapped the dash tweeters and noticed a substantial difference too. Much clearer. Allows me to adjust the EQ better.

This works out very well for most people. The adapters that come from Crutchfield require paying some attention to, for instance, tabs need to be broken off in the inner ring to get the speakers to fit properly.

I put 6.5" woofer drivers in the front that wouldn't fit (too deep) without a thicker adapter, which I ordered from @Mr Marv. You can get any speaker to fit honestly. If you have a sweet discount at the crutch, this is what I would suggest:

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113XP184C/Kenwood-Excelon-KFC-XP184C.html?tp=105&avf=Y

    or

    https://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-Exce...TF8&qid=1517946879&sr=1-1&keywords=KFC-XP184C

(sorry, I posted the wrong link)

This is what I originally wanted to put in my tundra. They even come with a mounting bracket in the box for Toyotas. However, you will need a mounting bracket for the tweeters, which can be had from *********

    https://*********.com/shop/speaker-...eeter-mounts-tweeter-installation-adapters-2/

Here is a video from 5Star Audio showing these bad boys going in.....

For the rears, well anything would due honestly....

Very true on the 6X9 adapter issue. The speakers didn't line up with the pre-drilled holes on the adapter bracket but the screws sink anywhere into the plastic easily.

One issue I had was related to the white plastic fasteners in the door cards. A few staying in the door when I removed the covers and I broke em while removing with a pliers. Might be worth picking up a few extra before project start. Sickening sound when it comes time to yank those door covers off for someone without experience with it. I was expecting a big pile of plastic to hit the ground!

Pliers are not the tool of choice to pull those fasteners out of the door, I used a couple of the interior trim tools to slowly pry them out. It is loud when you pull those door panels off, definitely makes you feel uneasy.

I used a pair of the cheap crimping tools to pull them out. Worked awesome.
