The oil in wet filters have been known to foul the MAF on speed density A/F systems. Remove it, pull the intake tube, buy some MAF cleaner, clean it. Reinstall OEM paper and source a dry filter like the TRD or AFE.

The real benefit for nay sayers is not performance, but waste reduction. I like not wasting paper and foam. YMMV

You might try MAF cleaner from an auto-parts store. Lots of YouTube videos showing how to clean it. It's not uncommon for oiled filters to be over oiled, causing the MAF to get covered in oil (bad). If it is the MAF you'll need to clean and properly oil the K&N before using it again.

Remember that old adage "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is". Ask yourself why if a filtering system like K&N was to actually increase power and get better mileage why wouldn't it be standard on the truck already. Toyota would for sure spend a little extra in materials to get even a fraction of of a MPG better rating on their truck. Look, they spent millions on an entire engine redesign from the 2015 to 2016 model to get like 1-2 MPG improvement. They also sacrificed a useful truck-like torque/HP curve to do so. Why wouldn't they spend maybe $50 more per truck (cost of materials to them) for another 1 MPG? Sorry to act like a dick but IMO if you spent $$$ to put a K&N system you fell for slick marketing.

Short trip? KW to Miami is 153 miles. I usually drive 3 miles a day. 153 is a long ass trip on my book.

The Air Intake was giving as a gift. Hard to say no to “Free Modifications”.

I'd say your "free modification" caused you to lose power and have a check engine light trouble code. So... hind sight would say your free modification caused you a few headaches and maybe even some $. :notsure:

    :pccoffee:
    Edit:
Have you had all open recalls and service bulletins preformed on your truck? Crank position sensor going bad? (although I thought the CPS was only an issue on the 3.5L IDK)

I drive 2500 miles a month lol. 150 miles is a short trip to me and definitely not long enough to see any trend.

Drove 310 miles back & foward from KW to Miami. Wasted half a tank, numbers don’t lie. Never surpassed 60mph during the trip.

Is this fix you speak of disconnecting battery terminals?
Is it fixed or is it just running without a code for the current time, and once a complete drive cycle is complete it will show back up?
Do you know what code it was that you erased?

Mechanic at the dealerships took care of it. I need to hook him up with a sixer of Old Milwaukee light...

So what was the actual fix?
What was the actual cause of the issue?

I have a feeling you messed with something you werent supposed to when you installed the K&N intake. Recheck everything again is my advice. Is there anything loose or something you forgot to connect?

I left a vacuum hose loose. My mechanic skills are a little rusty at times.
