I completely disagree. Gloves have no bearing on experience, knowledge or ability.
And good luck changing the filter on a 1st gen 4cyl without making a mess or getting your hands dirty. Pretty much impossible.

Years of getting Skydrol, MEK, Graphite Grease, etc gets old, l like Nitrile Gloves that fit nice and snug as they are not an impediment nor get in the way.

Damn that sucks, sorry to hear that. Gloves are cheap insurance, and another plus is you dont gunk up the steering wheel when you jump back in.

I never used them. As I said, a pro mechanic has a justification but once or twice a year is not a problem.
In my case, my hands get sweaty, gloves rip off and slip off my fingers, I can not feel the threads and small vibrations.

Had a similar product with my old Civic. Took to the dealer for free then discounted oil changes for the first few years.

One day I decide to take it to the local Honda shop that’s 5 minutes away to do it using a coupon rather than drive a little further to the regular shop.

The local shop comes out and tells me “we can’t get your oil drain plug out, whoever did this before overtightened it.” I told them ok don’t worry about it and bring my car back around. I was going to drive it to the other dealership and have them do it. Five minutes later they come back and say “never mind we got it, but just be aware you might develop a leak in that oil pan around the plug because of how far they tightened it.”

Both shop managers blamed the other for the potential damage to my oil pan and refused to do anything to mitigate it.

Last time I paid someone to change my oil.

My dealer, Charles Maund Toyota in Austin, over tightened mine. The first time I changed the oil after my not-so-free oil changes ran out, I broke 2 of the cheap oil filter wrenches trying to get the filter off . Finally, I bought the Snap-on oil filter wrench for Toyota. When I put it on the filter and turned, the filter housing snapped before it let go. Fortunately, when it breaks, it's easier to get off and I had no trouble removing it. Had to buy a new oil filter housing. Called and left a message for the service manager at Charles Maund, but he never called me back. The service writer said that they wouldn't pay because I broke the housing, even though there's only 1 way that the housing would be that tight. Lesson learned.

What is this Baxter spin on adapter you speak of and by what URL may they be found?

It stinks. And the petroleum smell of oil lasts even after using soap to get it off. I dont mind it so much, but my wife says no because of it. :(

And more importantly, my hands have become alergic to limonine (orange oil), which I used to really not mind on my hands because it smells good. So now I have to either use smelly degreaser to get it off my hands and out from my nails, or use blue gloves too.

I've done bit of small time shade tree work on my vehicles and simply prefer clean hands. Man, some people like to judge. I didn't get anywhere with local dealer and I'm just going to buy an aluminum adapter and take care of at the next oil change.

Happened on my wife's Highlander, I think they do it on purpose so that the next time you take it to them , all that have to do is use an extension bar to remove the filter housing. I'm sure they don't worry with draining the filter, they have the means to handle the mess. As long as I'm physically able, no one will ever change my oil again!

Yes it is a bit pricy, but no more oring replacements and no need for special wrench to remove filter. Had a canister spring mechanism go bad in a 3.6L JK and left me wondering what ended up in the motor. Yes, some oil will spill out when spin-on filter is loosened but that is normal for any spin on. Oil change takes 1/2 the time so for me this is great. Price of quality spin-on is less than same quality canister. Will I recover my entire $199? No but the lack of hassle makes up the difference.
