Back to kitchen cabinetry installation questions:

Standard spacing between counter top and bottom of upper cabinets is 18". Im reading that some builders/remodels are moving the upper cabinets up and making that space 20" (mostly to accommodate countertop appliances like stand mixers).

Do any of you have the 20" spacing in your kitchen?
    How do you like it?
Did it make the uppers too tall for practical use?
    Would you do it again?
    Photos??

For what it's worth, 99.9% of countertop appliance makers make their appliances shorter than 18" for that very reason. Do you have something abnormally large to put on the counter?

Mine are about 18" and work out well. I have uppers that go up to the ceiling and at 6' tall I can reach (stretching) the top shelf. We have a stand mixer and toaster oven on the counter. I can tilt the stand mixer open all the way without hitting the upper. IMHO I wouldn't do 20", but my lower cabinets are taller than standard, so it would have pushed the bottom of the uppers higher than I would like (a concern for short people - like my 5'2" GF).

Got all our seismic hold down anchors laid out and hanging at their designated height , conduit and water lines in and septic knock outs installed

22 of these should keep the building from leaping off the foundation

Passed our building inspection and structural engineer's inspection today , pour on for Wed

We have 20.5" The Kuerig machine sits on top a K-cup dispenser (3") and when open just clears the bottom of the cabinets. Without the dispenser it would clear 18" with a inch to spare.
I never noticed before now that the cabinets were a bit high lol Not a bad thing, I like the extra space around the stove. I'm 5'9" and I can reach the top shelf with a bit of a stretch.

Just my opinion: I like more space between the counter and the top cabinets. I would easily go 20"+ if building new with 9' ceilings. Then again My wife thinks I'm a special kind of particular so...

I think these would kind of be along the lines ideal for me: (pretty sure its 20")

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I agree...especially since someone likes to hang mugs from hooks under there so you hit them and knock them off and they break when you reach for a paper towel.

20” is a lot...with tall cabinets. If you go that route and put a microwave hood in, make sure that you can see what your heating, much less reach your top shelves in the cabinets. I even thought 18” was high at the time, but the industry standards keep changing on me. One day I am gonna hear 2 feet is the standard. You should really go to a cabinet dealer and get a feel for the height...I am 6’ tall and can’t speak for my 5’1” wife.
