When did autolock go away

Just bought my 2010 Tacoma and thought I had a problem with the locks...every Toyota I had until now had the doors autolock either when you put it in gear or when you hit 10-15MPH...turns out Toyota didn't put this on the 2010's...When did that go away? Why? I thought it a good safety feature....

 

They never did it. I dont even think the Tundras do it. They may be going away as a safety feature because, think about it, If you get into a wreck (God forbid) it will be tougher for the rescue team because the doors will be locked or bent in

 

IDK. My '09 didn't have it either.

I wish it had em. My old ford did. If I'm in a wreck and rescue has to get my ass out then break my window to get in or whatever is necessary to save me.

 

I also wanted this feature. I searched the FSM and there isn't anything that can be done as far as I could tell. If someone found a way I'd like to know. I sometimes forget to lock my doors and have to drive through the ghetto sometimes

 

This is the first Truck I have had with power windows and locks so... I am happy.

My 05 4Runner autolocked when you put in in "D"...My 07 Tundra autolocks at 10-15MPH...I was always told that locked doors enhanced the structural integrity of the cabin in a crash cause if the doors pop open it can fold up easier...seemed to make sense to moi...

 

00 camry and 03 tundra never did it

 

Oh forsure. It will keep the vehicle in one piece and the energy will go around. But I'm saying, if you roll and your locks become bent in the door jamb then thats more or a dangerous feature.

I guess there can be 2 sides to this idea. Autolock requires another few strands of wire and a relay. Since most Fuse boxes are the same, you might be able to get it to work.

The door locked or not has no influence of the latch popping open in an accident or not unless you tried to pull the handle open as you were wrecking... at which point... why?

Personally autolocks always kinda annoyed me anyway so... yea.

 

The wifey's 07 corolla locks when you put it into drive. my 07 and 2010 Tacoma's did not.

 

I have never heard that and based on the NHTSA 5 star impact ratings, it seems to have no impact on the safety. The door latch is what holds the door shut and maintains structural integrity, as far as I know all the door lock does is keep the door handle from disengaging the latch, it doesn't make it stronger.

NOTE: I reserve the right to edit this just incase I am dead wrong and in turn made a huge ass of myself.

You do know it is safer to have the doors LOCKED rather then unlocked, right? How would you like to get into that roll over accident and have your door go flying open? Wouldn't be a pretty site when you come flying out of your door at x MPH and possible become crushed by the truck. If you get into a roll over, the last thing you should be worried about is getting out via opening the door. Locked or unlocked, I can assure you, you will not be opening the door like your normally do. All of your decent fire dept.'s carry the Jaws of Life for a reason, to get you out of your vehicle in a timely fashion.

FWIW I have my aftermarket alarm system programed to lock the doors at 20 MPH

 

My '06 doesn't have it. My wife's '06 RX330 does, though. They lock when you move the car from Park to D or R.
