This system is much better than traditional "automatic climate control system," and the way it works is quite simple...

This is the HVAC control panel in a 1991 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II...

    DSC_0300-X4.jpg

    LOOK AT PICTURE ABOVE:
The dial on the left controls the blower/fan speed and serves as the on/off switch. The dial on the right switches between fresh air and recirculated air, as well as controlling airflow to the defogger vents (I guess that's what screen fascia means?). Those two wheels in the center of the of the panel control the temperature. The top one controls the temperature coming out of the dash vents, and the bottom one controls the temperature coming out of the footwell vents. This allows the driver and front seat passenger to have cold air on their faces and warm air on their feet and ankles (or vice versa).

    LOOK AT PICTURE BELOW:

Here is the sensor in the same '91 Silver Spur II...

Turning the dials to the right (blue), as seen in a 1996 Silver Spur II, will make the temperature colder (keep in mind that even though there is only one A/C compressor, the upper and lower levels can operate at two different temperature settings; Hence the name split-level). Turning the dials all the way to the blue will run the air-conditioner on it's coldest setting, which some thing defeats the purpose of having the automatic climate control system...

Turning the dials all the way to the left (red) will increase the temperature and make the air coming out of the vents warmer...

Turning the dials towards the center in either direction will bring you to a white-colored section. Centering the controls on the white section activates the automatic climate control. Sensors read the outside temperature, and set the temperature of the air coming out of the vents accordingly...

FUN FACT: In the 1970s and 1980s, Rolls-Royce actually shipped cars to Antarctica to test the performance and power of the automatic climate control system. Even in the extreme cold of Antarctica, the heaters functioned flawlessly and kept the cabins of the cars toasty warm!

It is also worth noting that when the automatic climate control system is activated, the A/C compressor runs all the time...

I asked my friend why most postwar Rolls-Royce models had Silver in their name...

This is the answer I got...

The ‘Silver’ was used postwar starting with the Silver Dawn and Silver Wraith. It harkens back to the 1907 40/50, chassis 60551 (better known by its registration number AX 201) christened by Claude Johnson as The Silver Ghost.

This one has the millennial anti-theft device, better known as a manual transmission!

One annoying thing for which we have our overzealous government to thank is the sealed-beam headlamps on the 1981-1993ish SZ cars...

They are not considered incorrect, but they do at times make the car look like a Mercury Grand Marquis (at least in my opinion). The Chestnut 1981 Silver Spirit above has these headlamps...

The Light Ocean Blue '81 Silver Spirit pictured below has the "proper" headlamps...

I totally forgot I had taken these photos until I found them while going back through my hard drive, maybe a month ago!

Here we have a 1985-1990ish Silver Spur (don't know if it's a II or not)...
