Hey man Its a Truck don't worry about what other people think of you, if you don't like how it drives its fine to say that you don't like how it drives. One thing my Boss taught me well is GUILT IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE. Just like what shaker said take it to the dealer express your displeasure with the Truck Let them know why and make them feel like crap for selling you a malfunctioning car. I'm not going to tell you to stop whining because your not doing that. If I worked my ass off (Which I do) to afford my truck and I am not happy about some BS defect or bad shifting I will damn sure let the dealership know so they can make it right. The Worse thing for a business is bad press if they cant take care of you talk to another dealer or see someone in charge.

You are upset and it is understandable maybe the truck isn't up to your expectations and that's fine you are the one shelling out money at the end of the day so you call the shots not the dealerSHIT. If you are to upgrade and you cause enough fear onto them just be ready for a bit more money to come out of your pocket. Stay strong OP don't feel trapped because other people expect a certain emotion from you.

If you’re not happy then get rid of it. I suggest doing an appropriate test drive on your next vehicle and doing more research so you don’t make the same mistake.

This has been covered on the forum time and time again. The automatic transmission is an odd beast, truck or not. No need to rehash all that drama.

Bottom line is if you hate it now you'll probably never learn to love it, so get out while you can.

How about asking for a manual? The exact reason I drive a stick is because I love Tacomas but HATED how the 3rd gen auto drove. No, rowing isn't for everybody but it sure is nice not having to fool around with that magic 8 ball of a 6 speed auto.

Seems kinda pointless to get the ShiftSense Pro on a lease that you're not happy with to begin with but it would probably solve that problem

^ Yeah, no kidding. Had so many plans for this thing though. Set of some nice A/Ts...was going to own this things for 8-10 years. It's a shame.

Maybe staying the course is the smartest thing to do at this stage.

if your dealer has a waiting list. just sell the truck from the lease. demand is demand.

i think toyota defers tax during lease so you’ll have to consider the tax on the full original purchase amount.

What drama? Look I'm just saying I know what a new automatic should feel like and this ain't it.

Guess it's as good a time as ever to learn stick though? Anyone willing to give lessons? :)

Lots of fights on here 6 months ago. Over this issue.

These trucks are geared so low its pretty easy to learn.

I don't disagree. I drove an 06 Dakota DCSB that couldn't stay in OD for lack of power... sold it for an 11 SR5 AC Tacoma. Loved that truck. Test drove a 3rd gen auto and felt like I was back in that stupid Dodge. So I shift it myself.

I'm not trying to start a Taco bonfire here over the driving issues, just to be clear. I honestly wanted to know if anyone had experiences with exiting a lease like this but it doesn't seem like anyone does because it's a stupid, wasteful thing to do I guess. Man I feel like a fool sometimes.

Anyways, I was just exploring this option but it's pretty clear that doing that is not going to relieve any stress, it'll probably create more.

You said it was shifting harsh. My auto does not do this. How many miles do you have on it? Have you had the dealer check it? If so and you really want out, take it to the dealer and see what they offer you. All we can do is guess.

Man, the old Dakotas were fast and had power! Drove one back in the 90’s in the mountains and they could climb hills even loaded down. My Gen 3 Tacoma is about equivalent to that in terms of power, my 1st Gen was not. I really like my new Taco, sorry to hear OP is having such issues with his.

idk I've been at two different dealers on 3-4 trips and several hours on the phone with a Toyota corporate manager. After all this I have have a an appointment to take a service manager out and drive the vehicle together and maybe the Toyota corporate guy will help out with checking the fluid (nothing concrete) but I'm telling you man this has been a battle so far for such modest demands. I can't do this routine for 5 more years.

Don’t let a bunch of internet strangers stomp on your options. When I was seriously considering my trade, I just went to the dealer to see what they would even offer so I could evaluate my options. They actually surprised me with their offer, and decided to make a deal, all on paper, before I left 30 minutes later. If you seriously want to trade it off, it can’t hurt to see what they will do, especially if they are wanting trades.

    Not mine... it was an 06 with a 3.7L V6... way under-powered

I hear ya. Toyota dealers make VW dealers look like creampuffs. I can't even get my dealer to plug the holes in the a arms without a fight. Fixing something per a TSB is like asking them to do you a favor. Good luck, but i'm going to tell you they will say there is nothing wrong. I'd start planning my next move if I was you. I posted earlier about trying to sell it to Carmax, do you have any near by?

I might have a chat with the dealer general manager and see what he can offer me. I haven't returned my satisfaction survey in yet for obvious reasons so maybe he'll be accommodating.

If your one that likes to baby your truck and drive conservative this isn’t the truck for you. I usually drive that way until driving this truck. Drive it harder and she smooths out and shifts nicely.

I'd probably stick with it for awhile, you're already committed to it and you have the Toyota resale working for you. It is what it is. It's still a nice new truck, you've got nothing to lose by keeping it for awhile and seeing if you warm to it in some time.
