Uneventful for the most part. Well, as boring as it can be with four cats in crates in the truck... there’s a hotel fiasco story there for another time.

In temp housing inside the park. Hoping to close on a home that’s under construction by early March.

Sadly no... there is no ISP in Zion valley! Working off my phones data, I don’t want to burn it all up. Once settled, then I’ll work on it for sure!

TacoGlenn's "way past the expiration date" Clif Bar test

So.... ever come across an old Clif Bar or some such in the bottom of your backpack? I'm talking about a "way past the expiration date" type of Clif Bar. I always wondered just how long these bars last. I found one recently that was 6.5 years past the expiration date, but I was curious if it was actually still edible, so I tried it. It smelled and tasted a bit "off", but still edible and I survived. I found another one from about the same time, I'm waiting until it gets 10 years past the expiration date and then I'll give it a try. The moral- if your starving and all you have is a very old, past expiration-date Clif Bar, give it a try.

I'll tell you what... I've had my share of long-expired camping foods and I've yet to get sick from them. However.... some have tasted so stale that I wasn't sure if I was chewing old attic-rotten cardboard or not. But I'm still here.

I saw two rocket boosters land in tandem by themselves earlier after launching a car into space, and now this?!

What a time to be alive.

Welcome to the WILD west. You might check into satellite service. I have Wildblue, now known as VIASAT, not cheap but sure better than dial-up!

I found one that was about 9 years old one day. Thing was hard as a rock. I didn't try eating it, but I honestly don't think you could bite through it.

I was just packing for my next trip and I was going though my backpacking food drawers. I had some leftover dehydrated meals from the JMT in August that I had repackaged into freezer Ziplocs but never ate on the trail. I opened one and it smelled like a hamster cage. Bummer that I had to throw out 5 yummy dinners that went bad. Some had added freeze dried beef and/or chicken so I can't trust that.

Freeze-dried in the original packaging should be good a minimum of 7 years. Some special packaging is twice as long. The difference is the original pack was foil lined, while the zip-lock freezer bags have some transpiration through the poly.
