Can someone post a link or information about fitting a 2nd gen topper on a 3rd gen (or a 1st gen topper on a 3rd gen)? Trying to find information on my recent project.

    Thanks

    They don't fit.

You're going to be doing a lot of work to get them to fit right on a 3rd gen.

2nd and 3rd gen have the same base dimensions for the bed shapes, but the bed height is different, so you'll have some weird height issues if you take a 2nd gen cap and put it on a 3rd gen.

    Check out this thread.

Well that's even easier, there's less similarities are both the bed depth, cab height and bed footprint are different. I only listed the things they have in common, which is the bed footprint on the 2nd and 3rd gen. 1st are in a league of their own.

Right, that's why I said it would be a lot of work to get them to fit. They aren't similar at all to the 2nd-3rd gens. I knew the 2nd gens were same dimensions but higher up. Most people just buy used 3rd gen canopies instead of trying to jimmy rig a 2nd gen.

Neither will fit good enough to even consider a $500 topper a good deal. If you’re patient you’ll find one used, scored a color matched ARE for $900 on Craigslist one town over.

In addition to the above listed differences, I believe you will also find that the door on the shell does not come close to matching the shape of the top of the tailgate.
