    The truck is a $20k something truck...You, We, I, have decided to get options that bump the price to $35-40k ...

    and rear brakes add some stopping power but only account for about 15-20% of total stopping power ...no one on here is racing or using trail braking off-road ,so I think disc brakes are non-factor in these trucks ...

    Okay but they obviously thought it was needed in the front wheels. So which is it?

    The stoppping power is in front not the rear, where most of the weight of the truck is..it’s like 80-20 brake bias...

    sure,they could’ve stuck some tiny rear disc or something in the back.you nuts, would be complaining about how tiny is was. Have you seen most of the rear disc that come on trucks? ,small...I wonder why they’re so small? .. I bet the rear drums rarely get engaged fully l during normal driving unless your stomping the brakes or towing something heavy

    Who Cares? Toyota is not going to put disc in the rear as an option, Too costly for them. Make a truck with two kinds of Brakes?

    In the past, the argument had been that “drums are an outdated technology”, but it was shown drums are newer tech than disc, by like a month lol. Or it was inferred that drums are somehow inferior, yet they are entrusted to stop loads the size of a space shuttle, or a pile of rocks bigger than my house. I, for one, appreciate the efficiency of the parking brake and ease or rear brake maintenance.

    The rears always engage. The amount is controlled by electronic brake force distribution.

    The simple fact that most all rear disk brakes are both a rear disk plus a problematic (when talking about getting packed up with mud) drum brake in the hat for the parking brake function. Very few cars have hydraulic parking brakes. You can see this because they have an second, smaller caliper on the rear.

    @SDTaco4x4

    KEEP DIGGING YOUR DUMB HOLE ... you don’t understand brakes or how or why they work .. so shut your dumb fingers up ... I mis-typed , I should’ve said they rarely get fully engaged during normal driving ...

    I can’t wait to see this guy waste 1.5-2k on rear disc and then see him complain about that

    :rofl: Yes, I'm digging myself in a hole by expecting rear discs in 2018.

    Looks man, if you're cool with drums, right on. The rest of us that want the brakes upgraded to what 4 wheel disc like almost every other new car on the planet aren't asking for much, though.

    There you have it guys. The PNW doesn't have dusty roads on 4x4 trails. :rofl:
    Your truck would benefit from a snorkel whether you agree you would "use" it or not. Let's just say you don't want one.

    Love the rear disc brakes on my car, the parking brake is mechanical and it squeezes the pads, does not have the hat and small shoes thing.
