Tundra brake kit upgrade rims options 16x8

Standard 16 inch spare, steel wheel and factory tire fits fine. I picked one up from CL after my old one got too rusty. Damn NY salt!!

 

What's salt?

 

Certain 16" steelies will - there was a thread on it somewhere. The steelie where all the holes are round will fit.

 

ahh, OK, maybe the older style 4Runner 16" spares didn't work?

This isn't true - first gen 16" spares fit over Tundra 13WL. Second gen 16" spares don't fit. (too much backspacing)

Anyone know if Procomp 7069 in 16x8 will clear? Been looking at them and have searched but haven't seen anyone confirm that particular wheel.

I used 13WG from 2nd gen Tacoma and 231mm Tundra rotor. It was mostly a direct fit with original brake line, the only thing that needed to be modified was the brake line banjo bolts were a little bit too long and hit the lower eye of the front shocks. I slightly turned down the banjo bolts on my lathe and everything clears perfectly.

Tire size: 285/75-16
Wheels: FN Wheels Five Star 16x8 -25
Caliper model: 13WG
Spacer: none

Is your rim size 16x7J stamped on the rim?

 

So now I'm reading that if you have a 1995-2000 Tacoma the swap means your brake pedal will be squishy???
Does it Stay that way or does it come back after time???

 

Well, my pedal doesn't feel squishy at all after the upgrade - feels much better to me, in fact. Honestly, I think it's dependent on whatever you are use to - every car is different. Our other car (an Audi wagon) has very different acceleration and braking compared to the Tacoma, for instance. And my CBR600 motorcycle -- different again.

Don't let the "squishy" brake pedal guys distract you from the real goal here - more braking power. You get that with larger rotors and calipers - there's no arguing that - and regardless of your master cylinder size, it's always possible to lock up the Tundra brakes. I think we all agree on that (but in full transparency, + @Blackdawg).

Wondering if the 2nd gen tacoma brake line bolt is the correct one to use here, or was it a hardline setup like the tundra's?

 

Still waiting to see what happens when you help do Mikes and you can do a true side by side comparison. I still think my theory is valid in that the small MC from the 01-04s is more sensitive.

But not that that makes it undoable on the 95-00. I mean even when i had the T100 MC in mine it stopped the truck just fine. But not nearly as aggressive as it is now. Plus, lets not forget that the T100 MC is bigger still than yours. So your 1'' one is probably just fine. The 13/16ths is just more pressure and more sensitive.

Will be fun to feel the difference in person.

 

13WG also uses hard line flare fittings similar to Tundra, just the exit is at a slightly different angle.



First gen's stock banjo bolt is the same thread, but just a bit too long as I've shown. I had to make sure there's proper torque on the fitting and monitored it for a while to make sure there are no leaks. It's been 2 years now since those went on and they've been perfect.

 

Didn't know a 2nd gen tacoma caliper was an option. So the original 1st gen banjo bolt and 1st gen hoses worked without any modifications except for the banjo bolt head that you turned down 3/8"??
You used the 1st gen banjo bolt or 2nd gen banjo bolt? Or maybe they are the same? Or maybe the 2nd gen bolt is smaller?

 

there is no banjo fitting on 2nd gens. It has a small hard line that comes out of the caliper and then connects to the soft line. See photo above your last post.

 

Ok cool, then he must have just used the stock bolt and hoses, no hard lines then?
