Easy debadge w/ guitar string

debadged my truck today. i didn't have any fishing line and dental floss kept breaking, so i used a thin gague guitar string. cut through the tape (or whatever it is holding them on) like a hot knife through butter. it also left enough of the tape so that it peeled off easy. no need for adhesive remover. the truck is filthy but it looks great without the badges, cant wait til the rain stops so i can give it a good wash and wax.

 

also installed fog lights today. couldn't wait to get rid of those black cups in the socket.

 

I would be worried about the guitar string scratching the paint if you weren't extremely careful. Don't have that problem with the fishing line.

 

Metal guitar string or nylon ?

Nylon guitar string would be stronger than fishing line I think, but metal would have the potential to scratch the paint

 

nylon guitar string is thick...don't think it'd work too well

 

Good idea. I guess a G string is thin enough to be flexible, but is wound so that it would saw through well. I guess if you kept the tension pulling up against the back of the badge while you were doing it, you wouldn't hurt the paint.

 

Maybe a .009 E string , but seeing as you can scratch the clear coat with your fingernails ( behind driver's side door handle ) I think I'd be inclined to stick to fishing line myself .

I just did mine about 3 hours ago with 30lb test fishing line. worked like a charm and I didn't have to worry about scratchin the mistress

 

I let mine sit in the sun on a hot summer day, peeled right off.

 

Just use some 20lb test Spider Wire Stealth. Strong and thin.

 

Hell I did mine with 8 pound line.

 

I stared at mine until they jumped off and hid under the truck.
