I've never worn a hood but I was thinking about getting one on whatever thicker suit I end up going with.

This is my go to for cold days/cold water.
    https://www.amazon.com/ONeill-Wetsuits-Mens-Psychotech-Hood/dp/B0787GLC71

And booties too of course: https://www.amazon.com/Xcel-3mm-Xplorer-Split-Boot/dp/B00NHQ24DA?th=1&psc=1

I like to size them down one size from my shoe size. Tight at first but loosen up to perfectly snug after they get wet.

    Support your local surf shop.

I plan on it. Tks frog house is a great shop in Newport. I'll go with a hooded 4/3. I don't know how often I'd use a 5/6 and the 4/3 will definitely get more use.

the cold water oneil suits are the best imo. i have a pyrotech 5.5/4, and its way warmer, and way more flexible, and easier to put on than my patagucci 4.5/3.5...

for every day suits here in socal i use the excel suits. they are a good compromise in price, comfort and durability.

Any one ever try need essentials wetsuits? I've heard good things but no personal experience. I usually just buy last year's what ever is cheaper off the rack

Rip curl flash bomb are the only suits I wear now that I’ve tried almost everything else.

Never heard of need essentials, I have been wearing Excels for awhile now and happy, like stated above, price, comfort etc.
I know people who swear by the flash bombs, I live near the Rip Curl outlet, and keep trying to find a good deal on one to try myself. i just keep stumbling open sweet deals on Excels

Flash bombs are really nice too. But the techno bUtter is just so soft and supple.

i believe need essentials is just a quiksilver suit with no branding. never like quiks suits. so haven't given them a go. but at their price point, might as well. wouldn't hurt as a back up if anything.

It's about $180 for a need essentials suit. Aren't the flashbombs around 4 hundo?
I work in Irvine next to ripcurls outlet but haven't seen deals worth it to me

My old Quick 4/3 with a hood was a good suit. I like the feel of the Patagucci wetsuits but they are too pricey for me. In my experiences, Oneil were the warmest and lasted the longest but lacked in comfort and gave me rub rashes, Rip curl were the most comfortable but always seemed to fall apart, Hotline always treated me right. I have an xcel now, it works, and was cheap enough to replace every year. I've also heard good things about Matuse, but haven't worn one and probably won't, they also seem expensive. I always consider wetsuits a seasonal expense, one a year.

Yeah, it all comes down to what fits your body best. Always got rashes in my pecs/pits area from excel and blew though knee pads constantly. O'Neill and rip curl seem to fit me the best. Of course I NEED to baller a$$ expensive suits. Nothing low end for my sweet sensitive skin.

Haha I'm still rocking my two year old burnt orange Insta kook quicksilver 3/2. It was on sale at jacks in hb. I love that suit.

For sure. I'd rather spend the coin on a good quiver addition, and I seem to break boards pretty regularly, so that doesn't help the wetsuit budget haha.

I don't like back zip suits. I don't know if I'll ever buy anything other than a chest zip

My last few have been chest zip too. Although during a really good thrashing I can feel water seep through the chest area.

I'll never surf mex again without booties. I thrashed my feet open multiple times my last trip down on all the rocks. Not bad in the water but comin out when your feet are all water logged they just slice open.
I got I think an e bomb from the rip outlet 2 years ago for 180 around Christmas. I buy all my suits from there now on their rack deals cuz they're so cheap.
