Hit up Wharton State Forest in the Jersey Pine Barrens today.

The sand was pretty frozen and I never felt the need to air down. Total different feeling that this past summer when I got stuck out there and it was soft powdery sand :)

This trail got way to skinny and the constant screetching of the pin stripe makers forced me to attempt to turn around, failed then had to back out a couple hundred yards. Lol.

You can see the charred trees here from the summer’s forest fire.

That looks nice. And from the looks of it, doesn't seem too challenging (as opposed to rocky terrains of Rausch or AOAA). I'll have to take a ride to Pine Barrens rather sooner than laterl:mudding:

The route I took today was not that bad at all, especially since the sand was pretty much frozen so I never Sunk in like I did last year and got stuck to the frame. Sucked. Lol.

Well, that and I did not go into the area (huge area that locals supposedly call the water roads) that I know is notorious for “lose your truck deep mud/water holes”. Seriously, there are areas back there where the guy that recovered me on a jeep with 40 inch tires jacked up skyhigh told me they don’t even venture into and if they do they know they’re getting stuck multiple times and will have to self recover winching the whole way..

So yeah, if you don’t kinda know (I kinda have a clue now a little) where you’re going or don’t have any clue whatsoever then you can get really screwed up and stranded back there.

Some of the pitch black mud/water holes back in Wharton that look like they are maybe a foot deep can be 3 to 5+ feet deep. The pictures are on my old phone, but I nearly lost my V Strom 1000 back there I was as deep as the seat but luckily had brand new knobbies on her and powered out of it in first gear redlined. Lol. It was 40° that day and that hour and a half ride home sucked really bad because I was soaked to the bone.

One helpful piece of advice is if you pull up Google Maps (if you really zoom in) on your phone, some of the main roads inside Wharton state forest which are some of the “roads” I was on are actual roads even though they are a pretty rough and tight sand trails filled with whoops totally disappear and you have to figure it out on your own...

Edit: I really want to make it up to AOAA and Rausch when it warms up.

Yupp, I want to check out Rausch as well.

Do you know if there is a map of Pine Barrens I could get, download or buy? I mean, I like Google Maps and all, but I would rather want to avoid putting myself in your predicament....

That I am not sure of but there has to be.

It seems that the Attison ranger station or the Batso station are the top places to go in from and if they are open I would assume that they would have that information, maybe call them and ask?

I would not rely on the taco GPS, the map on my phone was a lot more detail. FYI

That looks like a Brown's Camp trail.

If it's the one I'm thinking it is, the trick to get through there easy is to stay somewhat to the right side of the trail. Then aim straight for the big tree on the right, and just before touching it with the passenger side front corner, turn to the left just until the passenger right front clears the tree.
Then swing the front back to the right to get the rear to follow. Finally swing the front to the left enough to stay on trail, and the rear will clear that tree there on the left.

Actually the last time I went through there was before I purchased my 2017, I was in my 1997 Taco. Yeah it's still shorter due to the ExtraCab and being narrower....However, my buddy in his 2014 TRD Sport DCLB with canopy and shiny chrome nerf bars made it through right after me by following my line. Lots of room to spare, and this was his first time ever driving off road on a 4x4 trail in any vehicle. Our other buddy in his 2012 SR5 DCSB went first and chose the same line as you have pictured with nearly the same results you show. He had to do a few forward and backward maneuvers to finally get his line right, and he "says" he has experience wheeling coming from growing up in New Hampshire.

    Fun trails non the less!

Went to Hungry Valley yesterday to wheel some steep hills. That place is a gold mine for that.

I practically had the place to myself. Nice mint views all around.

Did some very mild wheeling north of Phoenix a couple weeks ago. It was the first trip for my new (to me) 2016 Sport. First trip, first pinstripe!! A little sad, but inevitable (especially in AZ). I am going to try and avoid stripe and maintain the exterior better than my last Tacoma, but I did not buy this thing to sit in parking lots!

So I took the truck into the Matanzas Forest here in central Fl. The plan was to map out a path to the ocean or at least the intercoastal. After running into a locked gate and no trespassing signs I backtracked and started again. 30 feet from the water......stupid gate.
