The only part of the Hilux that’s any better is the diesel if that’s what you want. Interior and exterior the Tacoma is miles ahead. At first glance the new Hilux could be wearing a VW badge with that nasty grill and headlights.

Now that you mention it, it does kinda look like a Passat.

Looks like they tried to downsize a Tundra's dimensions with a new front end. That does not look good. Any idea what trim?

Not sure. Just googled 2018 hilux. The Tundra front end is also butt-ugly to me. The Tacoma ain’t perfect, but it’s a hell of a lot better looking to me than the other Toyota pickup offerings (barring the LC70, which was designed in the 90s). I think we got the A-team on the 3rd Gen Tacoma design, and the co-op students and new-hires worked on designing the other trucks.

Well...think both the 3rd gen Taco and the new HiLux are pretty fugly.

The VW isn't really all that bad.

How about an actual payload of over 2200 lbs? Boxed frame, parts available world wide, smaller size == better on trails.
It's a truck after all and made for a working class, not some soccer dad who needs 12+ cupholders and a huge grill to prove manliness.
I believe the 4x4 still has manual engagement > electronic.
Those trucks been all over the world (stock) and proved themselves, while tacoma haven't been further than a mall lot.
Tacoma is comfortable & best truck in a midsize class in US & Canada, no doubt, but it's way behind in the global market when it comes to a performance.

3rd gen is ugly but the 2nd isn’t ha ha? It’s almost the exact truck just better styling on the 3rd.

This one has a bird feeder. :p

Probably be the one I would buy, no over the top styling, no bullshit looking basic truck.

They dialed back the bug-eyes and Nike swoosh fenders on the 3rd Gen, which was a step forward for my tastes. Still not exactly to my liking, but it’s gotta be a challenge with crumple zones and air bags, and DOT and all.

So tomorrow we get to find out what the deal is with the new “snorkel Taco”?

Who said it is going to be a pro only edition? If already mentioned in thread then disreguard..

Would you do an Iveco Massif? I never know if I love or hate these things. Bold utilitarian styling, but maybe fugly.
