Had my bp taken a few weeks ago and it was high. Had an Echocardiogram done, the doppler part of it was very cool, you could see the blood pumping. Doc put me on Lisinoprel 10mg.

Dude! Don't be bummed. I was diagnosed with high BP 2 years ago, started taking a daily dose of medicine, cut back on what I was eating, started walking, and everythings under control. I've seen folks do these drastic diets & they don't stick to them. Just eat what you've been eating but eat less of it and get some kind of exercise and let the meds do their thing. That's the recipe for success!

That is high for BP, especially your diastolic (bottom) number which reflects your pressure when the heart is relaxed. A diastolic of 80 is now considered high normal. Did they take more than one reading? Sometimes a cuff that is too small for your arm can give an abnormally high reading. Also, if you work nights (like me) it tends to raise your BP at least 10mmhg on average. Caffeine, salt, BEER <---- Sucks, and stress are major contributors to high BP. Genetics are also a major player in your chances of having high BP. Unfortunately my paternal side has a horrible cardiac history so I am also cursed with borderline high BP. Last one I had done was 137/74 and a HR of 54. However, when I do pre-fight medicals I am usually 150-160 systolic. High BP also leads to arteriosclerosis, which is a hardening of the arteries and can lead to heart attack and stroke. So, that said, I would recommend seeing a doc for a cholesterol and BP med, or take up a vigorous exercise program with a sensible diet. It's never too early to exercise and eat right. I try to reserve one day a week as my cheat day. Anything goes on that day, beer, chocolate, ice cream, cheeseburgers, etc. This keeps me from going nucking futs every other day of the week. Good luck with everything man!

At your age you really don't wanna get started on med.'s that you'll hafta take the rest of your life. Genetics do play a role in this and sounds like your likely to have blood pressure problems. You don't gotta give up everything that you love to eat. Just start reading labels and watch the salt. It's in practically everything we eat! Try and get more fruits and veggies in your diet and get more exercise. Then see how that affects your BP and go from there!
