Winch line is not something that I would want to take a chance with. Granted you don't have the same risks with synthetic snapping that you do with steel. But still.

    Buy once. Cry once.

Think they were lucky it didn't. Came in at 300mph and missed the barge by 100 meters. Shrapnel everywhere. Otherwise, very impressive. Photos of Tesla - Link. They needed a bobble head of Elvis on the dash.

Unless they are making it in house though I bet it's all coming from the same place. Heck the eBay one looks identical to warns. I agree to an extent on buy once cry once. I've thought about buying a spool and splicing it myself. If it turns out it could potentially save people a lot of money.

Bubba Rope is American made. :oldglory: I don't know about the others though.

Figuring out how to splice it could be pretty sweet

After a long day of traveling this is not where you want your day to end at the airport. Especially at midnight with an 1.45 drive home awaiting.

I have a very hard time believing that it should cost me $400+ for 100' of synthetic winch line when I bought my whole winch for $475 with the line included. I also need 12000# line for mine.

I believe Bob knows how to splice it all together.

If you can get good synthetic line and splice it together, that would be the way to go.

Bubba Rope is definitely way more expensive than it should be.

Bubba Rope - $423 for an 80 ft line of 3/8” (17,600#) line.

Amsteel Blue (the best synthetic line I could find) - $2.48/ft for 3/8” line (just under 200 for 80 ft)

@stronghammer I had an idea this morning that needs some collaboration
imagine a way to turn a mud tire into a street tire in a matter of minutes so as to save the tread for off road use in stead of wearing it all off on the pavement,
again imagine someone who takes their DD to the drag strip on the weekends but doesn't wanna buy a new set of wheels to put drag slicks on,
even more image people in the northern climates that are forced to either have winter tires mounted each year or have a 2nd set of wheels and tires for the season, and all of this can be fixed as long as you have access to an air compressor.
upload_2018-2-7_8-23-27.jpg what if we developed a band of tread that would fit snugly around a tire (possibly slightly barbed for extra bite) and all you have to do is air the tire down, slip the the band of tread on, and air the tire back up.

I'm thinking maybe 1/4" of tread making the overall profile of the tire 1/2" taller while offering highway tread for long trips, to say, moab across country. and obviously different tread for winter tires and drag slicks but the same principle.

Agreed. You can buy a spool of 3/8ths 600' for $1100. If you could splice them you could sell for about $180-$200.
