Honestly it just makes your tailgate more usable by helping it support more weight. When you dont buy one and you actually use your truck, your tailgate will look like this after a while...

 

Talking about that tailgate cap thing... if I ever come across one for my 2nd gen, I'd buy it, for what it's worth @Bridge4 .

Supposed to add reinforcement to that part of the tailgate. Maybe the 3rd gen is better than the 2nd gen in that part, but from what I've heard, in the 2nd it's a "weak" spot since that cap is crappy plastic. Already got the tailgate skin that I bought from @HolyHandGrenade and love it. You can feel the difference.

 

oh wow, I want to keep my tailgate straight. So would you recommend getting the main piece too probably?

 

Like I said, I absolutely love mine. I thought my dad would like one for his new 3rd gen but he said he wouldnt really use it and thats okay too. I got a killer deal on it when i bought it so im just passing it along. not looking to make or lose any money on it.

 

I bought the skin because they had a deal going on for the 2 of them a while back. @LivinLoud has just the cap and his tailgate is much more rigid than factory. Id say youd be fine with just the cap but the skin will add even more protection!

Not yet. Going to attempt that when the weather gets warmer, so I can take my time and do it outside, hopefully with the help of @vssman
