Didn't really like the 2nd gen either, a bit plasticy honestly...and they started to get bloated...liked them better when they were smaller. Toyota's used to be pretty plain and ho-hum, which I like...today's styling seems to be off the rails.

Favorite body style is the early 80's and the 2001-04. Also like the T100's and 1st gen Tundras too.

My aunt's best friend had this exact same truck, I drooled over it for years. Probably the truck that got me started buying Toyotas.

The 2001-04 has some design cues from the early 80's trucks, round wheel arches, grill has "teeth", headlights are round yet squarish, a bit of combo of an 80 and 83 headlight.

Totally, as it reminds me of a LR.

Always wanted a Land Rover Defender with a Williams Canopy. Just something so right and basic utilitarian about it. I can see dragging my wellies covered with cow shit into it, and not caring. That is what a truck "should" be.

The Lexus LS500 does not have a turbo 2gr, it has a twin turbo V35A-FTS which is a new engine.

As much as I’d like to see it, I really doubt they’re gonna take the engine out of their top of the line flagship and put it in a truck.

Isn’t the arb supposed to be tuned really well? Hence the big air box on the fender...

Now that's funny but sadly true. I swapped out my rear drums for disc on my truck. Hard to believe Toyota can't sell Tacoma's with them but advertise a better grill look, expensive wheel options and a TRD option that really isn't performance at all.

Give me a factory lift kit. disc brakes and a Diesel engine

IIRC, my 2005 Subaru's manual encouraged water crossings so long as the water wasn't too deep. I think it said to try and keep it below the tops of the tires.

I didn’t read this whole thread, and suspect someone else pointed this out, but hopefully Toyota moved the rear diff breather if they want owners to put the snorkel to use...

    That may be true.
It’s tuned to look like a guy flexing fatceps.

But yeah it’s probably tuned. Arb has science.

They do sell the Tacoma along side the HiLux in some countries in the Latin American market, probably because some need a work truck and the others need one to go shopping. :D

    Check the price differences too.

    https://toyota.casapellas.com/

What is ironic, the Tacoma looks tougher than the HLux, but it isn't underneath. Same with the Tundra compared to the LC70....Tundy cost more too. They know guys are willing to pay more for image than substance.

Will be funny if the snorkel doesn't even hookup to the air intake and its all for show.

Another member that works for Toyota commented saying that was their original plan. But they took so much flak from it, Toyota design team ended up making it fully functional.

I’ll keep my soccer dad truck. At least it can keep all 4 wheels on the ground. The hilux is nothing but hype and it couldn’t pass safety standards to even be sold in the USA.

Did they test the Tacoma? Because wheelbase and track are almost the same, and they share a lot of the same chassis components. UCA/LCA, rear diffs are very similar, transmission.

Frame and different engine choices are basically the only real differences.

What I want for Tacoma is a Minimum 1500lb payload capacity on 4WD models, V6 6MT on all trim levels.
