I heard they have had QC issues in recent years
Not sure if that's been resolved or not

I know there are northstar GB's constantly but they seem to fill up slow lately

I think either brand would be good for any of the rigs here in Kentucky

 

NAPA's "Optima knock off" batteries are about 1/2 the price and every bit as good. (IMHO better) I've got one on a diesel farm tractor that's 11 years old. It goes months without being started, and has never failed to perform. (Sits from October to May without starting/charging) You won't get more vibration, more bouncing around, and more abuse on a truck....than you will a tractor. Not even close.... Had one on my Dodge 3/4-ton that was 8 years old when I sold the truck. It ran trailer lights, a winch (on the trailer) and an electric over hydraulic dump bed. Got a spare that sits on the work bench and used to test lights, power a CB in the garage, etc....It's 7 years old, been charged MAYBE 3 times, and has started several vehicles for neighbors. Seems foolish to me to pay a lot more and not get more.... I buy for value and performance, not to own a trendy "brand".

 

Yeah, I'm planning a dual battery install a little later this year with Off grid engineering's stuff in the spot on the passenger side. I started researching last year and added a battery to my saved for later on Amazon. That Optima battery was at ~$180 for the longest time, last time I checked is at ~$270. That much price differential and still remaining profitable has me wondering what am I buying from Optima. Hate to throw down an extra $100 for a name, or because it's the "cool" one.

 

What is the Napa good batt called?

 

But the cool one is really really coool w/ Odyssey saying "made from virgin lead"

 

Has anyone corrected the charging voltage for their alternator?

At least it half ass knows what it's doing, being used once.

 

Pretty sure it was revirginized.

 

Let me preface this by saying I HATE Auto Zone.... With that, their Duralast Gold lead core batteries have one of the highest Consumer Report ratings. ie, bang for the buck.

 

Right? lol. But if it's virgin you get to mold it to your liking. Even tell it lies about what's "average".

 

Any one have a link to a comparison on the big box stores batteries to these fancy ones?
