I totaled my 2017 trd sport and bought a 2016 limited. Love the truck. Never owned a tacoma or even a toyota prior.

Most mags have it ranked near the bottom though. C&D for example 4th out of 5. So everyone has a different take on these things.

It fucking should for how much the cost changes lol between gm models. I did like the motor in the canyon I tested. Felt really good. Rest of the truck was a let down and was priced 5k higher than the Toyota I ended up buying.
Toyota has 4 free inspections. 5,10,15 and 20k miles with fluids changed every 10k.

Okay, im not here to say the zr2 is superior. I love the tacoma platform and enjoy all vehicles. I owned a Tacoma and would recommend one to anyone

Im from canada so pricing varies. But i have to disagree.

    A gas lt v6 colorado is around 40000, a z71 is 44000 ish and my zr2 was 47000
All crew cab short beds. The zr2’misses the tow ratinf but has allost every feature as the z71 plus more.

And a new tacoma offroad crew cab goes for 45k+

Thats good, inthink every nee vehicle should come with some free service at the start

Chevy being "quieter" is something we can actually measure though so we already know... its not, especially after 1-2 years when the chevy's become RATTLE CITY. I've driven over a dozen used colorados now every single one feels like the interior is falling apart after 20k miles, I've even made videos about it and posted them on here.

You're also literally the first person I've ever seen to accuse the colorado of being "refined"
That makes me really question your sense of taste, I'm curious do think socks with flip flops is cool?

But really the proof is in the pudding I sold my 2005 Tacoma with 130k miles ON THIS FORUM for $18k and it sold in under a week (you can look at the post yourself). Ironically at the very same time my roommate was trying to sell his 2006 Chevy Colorado with only like 112k miles (newer and less miles that mine).... he tried to sell it for MONTHS, ended up getting $6k... he spent 10x as long trying to sell it and only got 1/3rd the amount of money.... I wonder why?

"but but but the NEW chevys are so different!"... bullshit, they're just not old yet.

Comparative to a full size truck or compred to a Tacoma?

Ive never sat in a regular Colorado but the zr2 has a more truck seating position than any tacoma.

The zr2 feels the same as my employers ram 1500 as far as seating. The tacoma made my legs hurt cause its like sitting in a car on the ground

Dude the new colorado sucks. This is actually my first Tacoma. When i went truck shopping I didnt even bother with the colorado, it looked to rounded out in the front like a honda crv and the bed of the colorado is to tall and wide for the rest of the truck. It literally looked like the kept the silverados backend and put a tiny cabin up front it looked disproportionate. The styling just sucked ass like the Honda Ridgline. The new styling on the Tacoma looked badass. I aint paying no monthly payment for an ugly ass looking truck. If im gonna spend 45k on a truck Id rather just buy a full sized pickup. Not a Colorado zr2 wtf.... I bought my Tacoma for 26k and plan to never sell it. Ill probably buy a 4x4 4runner to park next to it.

Slow is slow. It still runs 17's in the 1/4. The new honda accord and camry both run 14.3 in the 1/4 mile. Let that sink in lol.

Go check a toyota hilux diesel times and get back to me on slow for a diesel...
A basic trifecta tune on a new colorado can get 5.9 secs 0-60 with 93 octane gas. Thats pretty quick...

They had that guys truck for 30 something days, it had a bad radiator that split by the transmission lines. It was repaired and given back but had a check engine light which was cause by the technician forgetting to hook something up. Guy is now driving it again according to his follow up.

Wow. That's still slower than a stock grocery getter v6 camry lol. My point is that they're all slow.

We have Toyota Care 2 years of free maintenance, Why would I have to buy the Highest Trim to have a nice truck (ZR2) when I can buy any trim in the Tacoma and have a nicer feeling and more reliable truck?

:) Well.... the guys with auto-Tacos have the same issues. The trannys are programmed for max MPG, not driveablity.
I spent over two grand on various tunes from various companies, and I installed a Pedal Commander, all in a failed attempt to make the damn thing driveable.

GM used the six-speed tranny for '15-16, but new they had a POS on their hands, so they went to an eight-speed tranny (and new engine) in 2017.

The eight-speed is supposedly much better, but there are still a few complaints about it.

One interesting thing I found from my time on the Colorado/Canyon forum was that the guys with the diesel/6-speed combination didn't
really have any problems with the way their trucks performed. The diesel engines provided enough torque down low to compensate for
the tranny always attempting to be in the highest possible gear, regardless of speed.

I toyed with the idea of buying a supercharger, but the best one was $7K, and I read about some issues with superchargers when it's really cold, as it has been this winter.

Anyway.... I have the manual now, and it does exactly what I want, when I want. :bananadance:

They should demand their money back if the same magazine called it's diesel borderline acceptable for passing then.

While having a Tacoma in the past, (a '95, so it doesn't compare to the new ones) which I sold in 2006, I feel like I have a decent "fresh" opinion on this subject.

I started shopping for a new truck at the end of this last summer. All trucks were on the table. Looked at initial buy quality, long term quality, and retained value. Quickly dropped the full size trucks, as they were just out of my price range for the options I was looking for. The field went to the midsize (Colorado/Canyon, Frontier, or Tacoma).
    Wasn't impressed with the Frontier...next.
Tested the Colorado, and just didn't get that "feeling"...walked across the street and tested a Canyon. Well, that was nice to see what Chevy could do with a little bit nicer materials in & out better looking than the Chevy. Oh, yeah, the price on the GMC...ok... well, let's look at Toyota.
The Tacoma has the options I wanted, decent power (sure, I know the Chevy V6 says 308hp, but they felt about the same, really...maybe a little stronger down low), the looks, and the aftermarket support is beyond strong. The wife wanted the safety features on the Toyota, which are better than the GM's... and she kind of has a say in my life. The Toyota looks so much better than the GMC, which looks better than the Chevy (IMO)...
I was able to get the options I wanted, and putting the price right at $39K couldn't get done with the Chevy. And, I really like having TONS of options when it comes to add-ons.

The long lasting reputation of Toyota had a say in this as well, and unless Chevy is no longer a Chevy, it'll be a POS rattling and breaking in 3 years. Never been an overly brand strong person, more of a facts based kind of guy, and the facts leaned more towards Toyota.
