You got this one correct? Can you show us the pin you're having trouble with?

 

page 4. The positioning pin. Handle screws down and holds it in place but the position pin just sits in there. its fine if its flat but if you have to remove the miter to do a large cut you have the possibility of losing the positioning pin.

 

Do you have a tap and die set? Add a heli-coil...

 

that was the other option Right now I only use the 90 and 45 degree cut on table saw. But primarily the 90.

I think I solved the position pin falling out problem for now at least. I took a piece of plastic from a screw bag and stretched it over the pin and put it in the miter. Everyone knows when you are trying to rip a plastic bag it never does what you want but try to hold something in a bag and it rips instantly. So in this case I use the stretched bag to my advantage. It seemed to hold and not fall out but removes easily.

 

also got the Harbor freight 6" disc sander for $59.99, a 25' air hose, and a couple small 10' tape measures and a free 25' tape tape measure. all for less than $79. originally listed for the the sander

 

I saw this at home depot yesterday, also may be worth looking at. Around $8 just have to match to the color of your project. Id go with a lighter stain first then if it works go to a darker stain if thats what you like. It was in a can shaped like this said it covered water/heat stains etc. maybe try the back of the mirror see how it works.

I put it together and its not real powerful but will work for what I need. I just need to light sand small pieces so this will work great and a great price

 

I'd prob start with a fine grit like 2000 go up from there 4000, 6000 etc.... You can find some in the automotive section in walmart. wipe down with a cloth when you start seeing "dust" come up from the piece. Dont use a lot of pressure. What you are looking for is more of a polish to blend rather than sanding if that makes sense.

 

just did that today...radial arm saw, cheap but I dont think Id use it that much and no room at the moment.

 

Piece like what you have is in decent condition, just needs some "lovin" in time rather than lots of money I think it will look really nice once you have a fresh/new stain you like on it. I know pics dont compare to seeing it in person.

 

I had the opportunity to get a car lift years ago, but I didnt have the space for it I prob would have sold it later anyhow but still would be useful today

 

Looks decent...I got my Jet table saw about half price of new. Same situation...the guy only used it once and had it in storage. I used it more in the first month than the guy ever did. It had been in storage for 10 yrs...lol

 

Basswood isn’t bad to dovetail with. It’s good to use as a backer board when your making multiple pieces of the same size to cut tails repeatedly...
