Ceramic coating

Do all ceramic coating have to cure for at least 24 hours . Because I don't have a garage to put my truck in ?

 

Preferably yes but as long as you don't have rain or heavy fog/mist you should be good. If you can apply the coating as early in the day as possible that would be good so it can have time to cure a bit more. Many coatings will completely cure within 7 days or so unless you are using UV heat lamps.

 

....adding that to the shopping list.

 

Optimum Glosscoat is what I use. No garage. Optimum say cures in 1 hour time as far able to drive in the rain.

 

Use AMMO Reflex and skip the ceramic coatings, Easy to apply, layer-able, cured in 2 hours then you can either apply more AMMO Reflex or you can apply AMMO Skin. The best part is you don't need to polish your paint to remove AMMO Reflex.

 

Why would you remove a coating anyways? That is the whole point of a coating. Don’t get me wrong Ammo makes some good stuff but failing to see the logic. Glosscoat is ridiculously easy to apply. I find it easier to apply than an easy on/ easy off wax.

 

Gloss Coat is not bad at all. I've seen it last close to 1.5-2 years before the water stopped beading on the horizontal areas and as mentioned super easy to apply. You can maintain Gloss coat with opti-seal to prolong it's life.

 

1) Coatings don’t last forever. At some point you will need reapply a coating. In order to do this you will need to polish off any risidual coating on the car as most Coatings on the market are only layerable when the coating is initially applied

2) Coatings do scratch, they are not built proof. If you do get a scratch then you will need to polish off the coating and reapply.

 

Coatings can be layered. Glosscoat is marketed as layerable. I have used wax, Adams Guard and Gloss, Optimum-seal layered over Glosscoat months after application.

Any product can get a scratch. What do you do to fix them? Coatings are just a better layer of protection. No product lasts forever. Besides when it comes time to remove the coating or reapply it is time for a polish anyways.

I think you are missing what I am saying.

Yes you can put a wax or sealant ontop of Glasscoat but can you put more Glass coat ontop of Glasscoat 6 months later?

With Ammo Reflex I apply two coats initially as my base then I use AMMO Skin as my wear layer 6 months later I can go back and apply another layer of AMMO Reflex.

The only limitation I have is I cannot apply AMMO Skin one week and the try to apply AMMO Reflex the following week without first going a doing a alchol wipe first.

Regarding no coating last for ever, I agree 100 percent as I stated this in my earlier post. But why use a coating that I need to polish off.

With AMMO Reflex I can just use a heavy Alchol wipe to remove the coating if I need to fix a scratch, but the idea is to not to have to polish again just maintain the Reflex by adding another layer ever 6 months and keep it topped with skin.

Please understand I am not bashing Coatings but to many people think that coating are the one stop protection that will last for years and that is not true.

And for me if I don’t have to polish a car ever year or two the more original paint I can keep on the car.

 

I think we both are misinterpreting. Fact is coating > sealant > wax.

Yes, I have applied another layer of Gloss Coat after a couple of weeks. Did this on the wife’s 4Runner. Not an issue as long as the paint has been cared for properly.

Try leaving bird shit on paint protected by sealant...it will etch. Have not had that issue with Glosscoat.

Yes, you can get years out of a coating With proper care. I am only polishing every 2 years now. Car is easier to maintain than with a sealant and I have tried several...Adams paint sealant, Megs NXT, Collinite, Klasse to name a few.

I was previously anti-coating till I tried one. After realizing how much easier it made my life, no way will I ever go back to a sealant.

Thanks for sharing the information on Gloss Coat, did not know you can layer it after the initial application. If this is the case then it works in this case just like AMMO Reflex which is a coating of some sort that can be layered both initially and later.

Then you but a sacrafacial layer ontop of the coating which can be a sealant or a wax. For this I use AMMO skin and I put this on once ever two months. Take 30 min to apply and wipe off.

So up to this point we are basically the same.

Where Glass Coat and AMMO Reflex is different is Glass coat needs to be polished off where AMMO Reflex can be removed with a Really heavy IPA wipe down. Granted it could also be polished off but not needed.

Another benefit of AMMO Reflex is that I can apply it to Paint, & Plastic as it remains flexible. I don’t know if you can do this with Glass Coat so please let me know.

Regarding coatings, I have tried CQuartz UK, nice product but not as easy to apply like AMMO. I was getting ready to try Kamakzi next but maybe I will give Glass Coat a try.

They want to make sure it isn't seeing moisture in that 24 hr period. I didn't have garage space for my truck after applying Cquartz UK so I put a layer of Reload over it a couple hours later.

Like you, I had to apply reload as I don’t have a garage and when I detail for clients I am mobile and some of my customers also don’t have a garage.

I like the CQuartz UK + Reload, but what I don’t like is the flash rates and how temp and humidity have such a impact on this.

I have been reading great reviews on Kamakazi system so I may check this out. But for my trucks and all my high end customers AMMO NYC products are my goto products

Regarding AMMO product. You will not be disappointed at all. Let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to help+ Larry the inventor of this product line has a ton of videos on You Tube plus he will answer phone calls and emails when you have questions. Which makes his customer service one of the best in the industry, along with a Meguiars.

Larry is one of the elite detailers of the industry and has been trained by The Godfather’s of the industry like Kevin Brown aka Mr Buff Daddy, Jason Rose, MIke Stoops, etc.

 

Yeah, wasn't a fan of UK application. I'll be switching either to Opti gloss coat or Gyeon Mohs. Heard good things about the Kamakazi system and Ammo. I can justify the prices on that stuff for daily drivers.

I haven't done to much research on this product.

Opti Gloss Coat seems interesting to try, I will need to talk to Matt Moreman (Obsessed Garage - another great You Tube Channel) about this as I know he went trough Optimum Training and I know he currently uses Kamikaze Coatings.

I have a company car that I use as my test vehicle for all new products,which is great as this car gets abused with both Highway and city mileage and doesn't get washed as often as my Truck.

One other key thing if you ever try AMMO Reflex is you can continue to use the same applicator over and over again as long as it doesn't become dirty.

I learned this from Larry when I was with him last spring and this helps save on product.

When you are done applying AMMO Reflex for the first time take the applicator and store it in a zip lock bag, the next time you go to use the pad the pad is already primed and when you add more AMMO Reflex it reactivates the AMMO Reflex that is already in the foam pad. This is great and will extend the bottle of AMMO Reflex.

 

Detailing by hand, I don't miss this at all.
Doing a deep cleaning, paint correction and polish is fun though as when you are completed the final product looks amazing and normally looks better then when the truck came off the factory line.
