Or at least have a few that hold a proper coffee mug or a wide based glass or Nalgene.

I believe the tailgate should come with a slide out cutting board for just that purpose.

    Tacofort. That’s just awesome.

I can see building that, and my girlfriend saying something typical like “omg, how much did you even pay for that” and I’m in the top, looking down, wearing hulk hands (which I just ordered on eBay, that’s a whole different story that I’m upset about) and eating a taco, taco bits ejecting from my mouth as I yell “it’s a taco.FORT. Like a tree fort but better and for grown people!”

I've been saying the Pontiac Aztek was ahead of it's time for overlanding. Built in tent and cooler. It just needed a snorkel.

As an owner of a Hilux with the same 2.4L diesel and manual drivetrain that Top Gear tried to destroy, this truck is just built on another level. Japanese quality was definitely peaking in the 1980' and early 1990's

Both the Tacoma and the Hilux are solid trucks overall. They'e cousins, same DNA.

My gripe with my 3rd gen is with the shifting but that's it.

Man, you are one brave dude to admit you owned and loved a Pontiac Aztec!

As long as we are coming out of the closet here, I did have a short affair with a Chevy Luv.

Barely anyone even noticed this. Still arguing about weather or not they need a snorkel or trying to justify how ugly the Hilux is. If the Hilux came you would have a 20 page thread in 2 days complaining about the soft exterior and dated interior.

Not much for specs on the ranger but this atleast looks a lot better than a stock ranger. Interior is terrible.

I've never owned an Aztek. Lol. I do however still own a 2008 Ridgeline (hasn't been driven in awhile, lol). :crapstorm: That purchase alone lead me to Tacomas for more capabilities and better options to make it my own.

Ok, ok, I give in. The Hilux is a serious mid-size truck for people who take mid-size trucks seriously. Way way way more capable than the Tacoma....I found out, on my street alone, over 25 people bent their 3rd Gen Tacoma frames hauling anvils......plus it looks friggin sweet in Pink. Case closed.....just ordered this exact one:

From my understanding the front is exactly the same. Rear springs are different. Would be cool to go through the micro fiche and compare part numbers.

It is odd that the HiLux is cheaper in some markets, since diesel engines are generally an upgrade, and the frame "seems" to be beefier...and I wonder if that is why it failed the test, doesn't flex as much as the others.

It may sound like it, but I don't hold it up some mythical pedestal (as I view them all as "if it has tits or wheels it is gonna give ya trouble") but it does seemed to be aimed at more of work truck, than the Tacoma is...it would be nice if we got the diesel in the Tacoma, for mileage and torque for off-road sake. And a little better payload, though the overland crowd overloads the shit out of the Tacoma, and I never hear of any catastrophic failures.

Since I am base model kind of guy, it would be this one...somehow the unpainted "beard" bumper looks better to me on the HiLux than the Tacoma. The whole plastic front end on both of them is kinda lame. But in the end, don't really care how it looks, as I am going to beat on it, and try to run it up to 400K miles over the next 10-15 years. Not really fond of the new style wrap around headlights that are on everything these days, kinda spendy to replace when you smash them. Not like the old days of $10-20 halogen headlights.

Does it smell like the grass is greener on the other side? Because usually it isn't.

Here we have Taco owners fantasizing about the Hilux and how it's so much better than the bro-dozer Taco but I bet you anything there are a few guys on a Hilux forum right now complaining about how much better the Tacoma is. There is no perfect truck but the Tacoma comes pretty damn close. Hilux probably isn't far off either.

This isn't a joke dude. One of the major reasons why I regret going access cab is the fact that I only have 9 cupholders. One of my first mods will be to get that number up into the double-digits at least.
