Yeah my bitch is HEAVY but I made it that way because I’m not a good woodworker, and wanted something easy to do. It’s mainly 2x12s which could easily be reduced down.

As far as the hatch, mine actually is! I love it that way. The front half of my bed is for my spare. After I get my bumper, I may carry a second spare there, or maybe an air and water tank. Not sure yet.

Thanks for the input. I like the idea of the half drawers and a hatch towards the back. I could easily seal it up by lining the edge of the hatch lid with weather stripping and just have a latch to hold it down secure.

This 5/4" material is what exactly? Wood? Plastic? Fiberglass?

Oh I didn't realize it had a hatch! Good thinking! I was at the business end of things the day I saw it, while changing your tire, after getting a flat, in the parking lot of AOAA

Hm ok. To add my table, I think I'll need one. And when I build my drawers

That’s what prompted building it in the first place, is I needed a place to store my spare. It took up too much space in the bed. No way I could move my drawer if it ran the full length of my bed!

5/4 yeah it's wood. So I'm sure you know there's 2x4's, 2x6's and so on. They aren't actually 2" thick. They're 1.5". The 5/4" describes the same thing, the thickness. It would be 1.25" nominal thickness, meaning it would be 1" thick after it runs through the mill.

Not sure why lumber is described in this way, meaning they say nominal dimension (2x4) and not the actual dimension (1.5x3.5)

Good shit! You're a crafty mofo. A gull wing hatch would be cool too if @BravesTaco95 doesnt need storage for the spare..

Man you got me really wanting to do this now. I don't need to store a spare because I'm only running 265s and so a full size spare will fit in the normal spot.

A gull wing hatch would be sweet since I can reach through the sides of my bed rack pretty easily and would save from having to crawl up in the bed.

It was way more affordable than I had thought it would be. Makes me wonder why more people don’t do it
