    I'm not sure. We checked to make sure everything was seated and in the grooves, and it seemed fine. No noise until the other day when I went to start it up. Hopefully it doesn't happen again...

    No kidding. Glad everything seems ok now! I haven't done one yet so I wouldn't know where to start with ideas. What Monte said about the tensioner would be my only guess

    Everything seems fine. I think it was installed misaligned on one or more pulleys. It was one rib off and it finally wore through on that one rib. I trimmed that rib off and I'm keeping it in my truck as a spare. @MuddyJackson already has a spare.

    It might have just been the exhaust from a cold start. The truck was in a garage.

    I think we were both on high alert with the awful noise coming out of the engine bay. The frayed tails hanging off the belt were causing a terrible racket in there.

    I've never had a fuel smell from a cold start but mine lives outside. Injectors maybe? If mine is up to temp and I restart it after 10 min or so it struggles to catch like it's flooded.

    I didn't think it was from a cold start. But I didn't smell the fuel after we changed the belt... so... I'm good with that. And it doesn't seem like anythings leaking.

    It's a mystery. As @MuddyJackson mentioned, there's no smell now. It was definitely strong at the time though.

    It was a new belt (a couple months old). It didn't appear to be slipping on any of the pulleys. One side was just peeling off. There's no damage to any other portion of the belt.
