i don't think it is screened printed...i believe it is laser etched...Pilkington is the maker...my second one was exactly like the first but had a black label over the Toyota name,,,,i rubbed off the black stuff and it became OEM.

My windshield experience has been nothing but a nightmare.

OEM windshield caught a rock. Local chain shop (not Safelite) repaired the chip. Within a day the chip went across the windshield. Took it to the shop to get a new windshield put in. They used an aftermarket unit that looked like junk and leaked like a sieve. They also did $1,000 worth of scratches around the windshield. My insurance authorized a replacement using OEM (which is supposed to be the law in MA for vehicles under a certain age). The windshield was replaced at a different location of the same chain and I got a few more scratches, with an OEM piece. That leaked. I had it resealed at a third location and that started to show signs of leakage. They checked it a fourth time and all seemed well for the time being. By then the window to get the scratches repaired had already expired while I was still getting everything straightened out.

Fast forward to 4 months later and I notice a drip at the top of the windshield at the mirror. Yep, so this is the 3rd piece of glass that's been in there. These trucks must be sensitive to everything related to the windshield. It's been simply awful.

I think you mean Pilkington and they’ve gone down hill quit a bit as well. FY seems to becoming a better brand to go with.

Which has been what my glass shop has used to replace the last couple times. Have another OEM coming, going to put it in the garage and install when I sell for the raptor ranger:bananadance:

not rock chips, but living in the northeast I spend a lot of time scraping ice off my windshield. 2016 tacoma, 15k miles, and it's scratched to all hell. using a standard car ice scraper. not the same thing, but curious if anyone else is experiencing this? never seen it happen like this before. dealership told me just to call corporate and hope for the best.

It's just that...a rumor. I live about any hour from one off their plants. I'm a union ironworker and we rebuild their furnace every 5 years. Slated to do another in 2 years.

When and if my time comes and more than likely it will come, I'll go with PGW (PPG), I just trust it more and for what its worth I had a chip cured on day one that I drove it home, my fault.
I saw a guy with a weed eater on the medium of the hwy and I didn't get over to the right lane because I was lazy and had to make a left at the light. But its fine, it never ran and can't hardly see it.

I'm now at two years which is about a tie for my record without hits with my previous vehicles for the more ugly and unsightly serious hits.

    Cheers!

My second gen with 200k had two different windows installed, when I sold it, it was really bad (would have been 3) so I don't think it's 3rd vs 2nd. Also, I've noticed that cars that are real low to the ground, almost dropped are the worst culprits for throwing rocks.

Cracked windshields in CO are a dime a dozen. Pull up to a stop light, look at other cars, at least one or two will have a cracked windshield.

I've been through 2 windshields and have two star chips on my third in my 17 with 29,500 miles. SC roads suck, but so does this windshield.

Mine is being replaced tomorrow. Got 1st chip 6 months ago. Was too small to be covered as a replacement. Then caught a tiny pebble just above the rubber strip at bottom of windshield Monday. Grew to 3" as I got off interstate. When I got home it was 8" long. Woke up the next day to this.

My Dad has a 2016 Camry. Looks like someone fired 2 rounds of pepper shot at his. Pitted from Hell. These are the cheapest, or poorest quality, windshields I have seen in my 40+ years of driving. I have a 20 year old Maxima that I bought with a scored windshield from an old lady that ran bad blades. For 5 years I have been hoping for a rock to break it. A hammer can bounce off or that one and not crack it.

For those of you that have had their windshield replaced, did the new replacement windshield come with the GoPro mount? My 2017 caught a nasty rock today and spiderwebbed within a few minutes. Pissed.

2017.. Not even 3,000 miles and have two small chips toward the top near the mirror.

I baby this thing (I drive under the speed limit on the highway, if I see a TT I move away prior to approaching etc).

    This is bullshit.
