Aggressive looking all terrain tires?

would big chains like Discount Tire carry "good tires" or should i find a local shop?

They probably have some decent ones and some bad ones at Discount Tire. You defiantly get what you pay for.

Pretty much anything is a step up from the OEM Dunlop Grandtrek.

 

You can check out both. Everyone out there is going to have the usual choices. Bottom of the shelf, middle of the road, top of the line. It doesn't really matter which brand of tire you get. Just don't get the el cheapo sale rack ones and you'll be good. You don't necessarily need race car tires either, get something in the midrange. Price wise and quality wise...

 

Look into the Hankook Dynapro AT or the Bridgestone Revo 2. Both are very good, quiet "all terrain" tires that still look fairly aggressive.

 

I have been trying out a set of tires called "Rockproofs" by Nokian Tyre. (As pictured in my avatar photo.) They work outstandingly well in pretty much all terrain. I've done a lot of light crawling and dirt road drifting shenanigans with no "chunking" whatsoever. They also do very well in the snow, i learned recently from a trip to Michigan's upper peninsula 3 weeks ago.

 

@Discount Tire had the best prices on my STT Pros by like 15$ per tire and they gave me an unlimited warranty on the tires for any hazards(holes, flats anything like that) for like 60$. I’ve sent a few people to them now and they all had great experiences

Michelin. Used Michelin on farm trucks in the 70's with good results. Even retreaded several sets. Then became a Firestone dealer at the farm supply store. Freed from farm debt I returned to the Michelin line when it was time to get new shoes for a 1991 Nissan 4x4 Hardbody. Got over 100,000 miles on the Michelin LT tires on that light 4 cylinder, 5 speed truck. The next set of Michelins were moved to the 4Runner at about 30,000 miles on the Nissan. I continued to ran Michelins until traded for the first Tacoma. I replace the tires on the Tacoma and returned to Michelins. Trading for the next 2012 Tacoma I kept the tires and wheels. The current set have about 80,000 miles on them and still have tread, but I have started watching Craigs list and a two select tire shops to find some Michelin take offs. Found some that were half price, but just a little large for the Taco. I did find a nice set of Tacoma wheels with good tires that now reside on work buddies Taco on Craigs list. Beware and buy smart.

 

Falken Wildpeak At3ws all the way! I've had a few different brands and these amazed me. Snow,mud, dirt, and rain they really surprised me in the snow and rain.

I was a Michellin guy for years,but found that they really don't last any longer than anything else now (they dry rot here in Vegas fast),but Michellin's are a lot more expensive and even their A/T tires look like street tires which I longer want or like the looks of.I refuse too spend $1200 for Michellins

 

What size are you running ?

 

265 70 17 SL going up next set. Bought these just because I needed tires thinking i was going to replace them soon. But boy was I wrong, I'll be buying these for a while. BFG never did me any good. And for the price heck.

 

I am going too try 265/75/17 on my stock prerunner with a level kit.

 

They will fit I'm running 3 inch Toytec lift with 17 x8.5 wheels

I bought a set of Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT265/75/16 Load C for my girlfriends 1st gen. Spent about $450 for the set. She does mostly highway/street driving and tries to follows me off road lol. She drives anywhere from 20-80 miles a day depending if she's going to school, work or my house. They are good tires for the price in my opinion.
