Sorry to burst your bubble, but intake and exhaust will not fix it.
It's a software related issue in the ECU.

Kinda figured it would be a "tuner" issue and not fixed by old school methods. Still makes me feel better to change out stock stuff for aftermarket "better" stuff.

Yeah, I didn't say the mods weren't worth it... just saying our retarded throttle resonse (or lack thereof) is computer based. So the only remedy is a ECU tune. We are all in the same boat.

Orange Virus (OVTUNE) is the only person AFAIK to break into the Tacoma ECU. He has fixed it (kinda) but still developing new code to compelete eliminate it.

So it even with the tune it still hunts gears a lot? Is he getting any closer to finishing it?

The tune does fix the throttle issues.(can confirm: I am running it)
BUT. Our "smart" ECU adapts and re-learns it's old ways over time. That is what OVtune is trying to iron out. There is an entire thread with hundreds of pages with a lot more info.

Have you fitted the trd one to you truck?
I think not because if you did you would have noticed an improvement with throttle response and acceleration.
If you haven't got one you are just guessing.
I love mine and I love to stomp on the gas and hear It growl. I 100% recommend the TRD intake.

    Too much.
Before and after dyno numbers, or butt dyno numbers?

I'm going to dyno my truck bone stock. Everytime I add a sticker, I'm going to re-dyno it.

The peak dyno number will be the same.
But across the whole rev range I guarantee power is up. 3rd gen has more peak hp than 2nd gen but 2nd gen has more power across the Rev range and is faster 0-60. Peak hp doesn't tell the whole story

Yes. I've played this game before. Learned the hard way. Money better spent elsewhere.

I put the TRD CAI + Catback Exhaust on a MT 2017 TRD Offroad about a month ago and have experienced the following:

    • Helped stumbling issue in the low 2k RPMs.
    • Smoother feathering on acceleration/deceleration once RPMs get lower, previously "lunging".
    • Feels like the engine is breathing much better.
    • Lets me hear when I break the tires loose on the snow/ice.
    • Got a little bump in MPG, won't have steady numbers until its consistently above 40 degrees here, but it's there.
    • I like it, feel like it improved my driving experience, DGAF about the rest.

Both sound and throttle response improved with the intake and exhaust combo. I bought them both at Summit Racing and installed with no difficulty on my 2004. I did take the muffler in to be welded about a year later when it started to whistle. $50 to weld and whistle was gone.

When I did buy this it was during a free shipping promo. But was the best price I found. I found it a worthy modification paired with my exhaust.

Minor jump in peak hp/tq to while sacrificing bottom end. Not what you want in our trucks. Plus, this isn't even the TRD intake.
