2018 Frame changes affecting rock sliders

As I’m doing research on rock sliders I’m noticing that most of the bolt ons ( example cbi, pefrey) are saying that because of frame changes to the 2018, drilling is required for maximum strength and hi-lift usage. This really sucks since I was looking for a no drill solution. Any ideas whether these are temporary accommodations for existing sliders until a solution is found or a permanent limitation due to a frame incompatibility?

 

I think there were differences between 16 and 17 Frames, that would be strange if they made changes again to the 18s. Maybe the guys making sliders will do minor changes to accommodate whatever is different on the 18s.

It’s possible it happened 2017 I guess so you’re probably right.

 

Don’t want a permanent mod. But aware that’s the ultimate solution.

 

Mine are welded. If I don't want them anymore I can always cut them off and clean up the frame. Not really permanent, but definitely a little more work than just unbolting it

These guys have a true bolt-on design. They should be able to answer your questions about the 2018's as I'm assuming any modifications they need to make to their sliders will still keep it true bolt-on. It's the #1 reason I went with their sliders. The beam clamps and cantilever supports at the back made a lot of sense.

 

For what it’s worth, when I put Demello sliders on my 1st gen they had the same recommendation to drill an extra hole on each side for 100% max stoutness. But when I had trouble drilling it, they said “well it’s not REALLY necessary.” I didn’t drill them and could still lift the truck by putting the jack at any point along the sliders.

I did see theirs and it says to use them as steps if you don’t drill. Cool it worked for you though.

 

Like mentioned above, Mobtown has a true bolt on design. I have an 18' truck and have sliders on order but the website said they work on 2016+ Tacomas and didn't mention any issues about frame changes. I'm sure if there was an issue, Mobtown would of noted it on their site. Super excited to get my sliders, been about 5ish weeks so I know I'm over halfway!

I hate to be a thread necromancer, but has anyone gotten these onto their trucks yet? I'm going to be taking delivery of my '18 Tacoma in a couple weeks and I am shopping for a set of rock sliders that will also help protect my investment from door dings. Will these do so on their own? Or will I need kickouts?

My sliders have arrived as of last week, but not my truck but it’s gone to build so should be here any time now. I can post an update when I get them installed.

These are going to by my first set but from my understanding, Kickouts are helpful getting around obstacles while the sliders provide protection by default but I like the look as well.

 

I bolted up my CBI sliders with kickout a few weeks ago. No real problems for fit as far as I could tell and talking with them on the phone they didn't mention that you needed any extra holes drilled to lift off of them. No mention in the install instructions, which were sparse to say the least. There is one plastic clip on the drivers side frame rail that goes to one of the supports of a brake line, that when the slider is mounted will pop through a little more than I would like, but did not seem to deform anything significantly.

As an FWI my measurements on my otherwise stock suspension setup (Not for long) Before / after slider install follows. Lost around 1/8th of an inch of height.
Front Driverside: 35 1/2" now 35 3/8"
Front Passenger: 35 3/4" now 35 5/8"
Rear Driverside: 36 5/8" now 36 3/8"
Rear Passenger: 36 5/8" now 36 1/2"

 

Yup, will be getting my 4XInnovations burned on in a week or two.
