what about 5 lug max tire size?

 

Someone before me did touch on this a bit, but I would like to elaborate a bit.

The two different tire sizes are much like taking a turn all the time. They spin at different circumferences, causing your differential to take a lot of stress. Over a short period of time, this isn't a big deal. But if you are doing something, like replacing one of your half-worn AT/MT tires because of unrepairable damage, then you really should replace them in a pair, because even 6 or 7 32nds of an inch difference in tread can cause damage over the 15k left on the non replaced tire.

Example: Your left rear tire has 6/32nd less than the right rear tire that you just replaced (running 265/75/16). Instead of 8.29 feet in rolling circumference, it is 8.19 feet. Therefore, it spins 458 times more each 60 miles. This isn't a huge deal if you have an open differential, but if you have a posi (which, I guess is more of an F-word thing) then you'll burn up clutches pretty quickly. Or it can cause your ABS to behave strangely in the winter. If that tire is on the front of the vehicle, it can cause pull issues and bizarre braking all the time.

This is an extreme case, but it is something to keep in mind when putting larger tires on your Tacoma, and neglecting your spare or replacing a tire damaged on the trail.

 

Hi, Im Hilux User, I tink its almost the same model than TACOMA. OEM is 265/65R17 s, do you think I can go with the 265-70? thanks

 

on mine at stock height i had 285/70/17 on stock sport rims i also had to use a 1/4 inch spacers so it didnt touch the uca. and only rubbed at full lock in reverse. if that helps you any

 

275/70/17's fit with no rubbing (BF Goodrich TKO's) - 191.72 per tire at Sam's on 5/11/2010

 

I have an 08' tacoma with a 3" RevTek Lift and I'm looking into purchasing 18" Rockstars on some Nitto Trail Grapplers and I need some help in choosing the size of wheel spacers to avoid any rubbing. I noticed that they vary in sizes ranging from 1" to 2". Please Help

 

The 18" XD Rockstars that are 6 on 139.7 (5.5) have a 5" backspacing. You will want to be around 4.5" backspacing to not have issues rubbing on the upper control arm, so a 1" wheel spacer will be sufficient. What size tires are you running? I have 275/70/18 mud terrains with a 3" lift and 4.75 backspacing.

You could go with 20" XD Rockstars and not need wheel spacers because the backspacing is right on. You would have to go with a different tire though. A 285/60/20 Good Year DuraTrac would work.

Let me jus say that after much reveiw, online an calling around. That the Hankook Atm-10 is by far the best tire I have found in any appilication... It's got handleing that you wouldn't beleive, VERY aggresive on road an off! Quite, looks good, an supposed to have a 50k tread life, we'll see I guess.. But the side wall design is awsome on a mattle black wheel. An the price is a sure bet. Got them from dicount tires for 128.40 a tire.

265/75/16 impressive at 90 mph in the curves!

 

Do you have a link to that tire? I'm trying to find it and I'm coming up empty. Would that size, the 265/75/16 fit on the 16" TRD OR wheels?

 

i have 18s and 275s. i have a lil rubbing but i needed to get offset rims to fit them

 

So the 255/75/17 MT will fit?

 

I have a 2010 Double Cab 4wd SR5. Stock tires are P265/75r16. I got the alloy off road wheels and plan on keeping them. However 75's a pretty skinny and want to go wider and taller prefably. I know the stock OFF Road pkg is P265/70R16. I was wondering if anybody had any 275's to show in a pic? And if they will fit without getting a lift.

 

I have 2005 Tacoma Access cab 4X4 with TRD. I currently have Eagle rims with Bridgestone 265/70/17's They do rub going over a dip. I called Trie rack and it seems that you have to be careful of the offset of the wheel. I'm sure the stock rims have the correct offset, but if you go to after market rims be careful.

 

i have 285x60x18 on my stock 2011. 18x9 wheel. they are perfect with no rub.

Just joined. Just picked up my 2011 Tacoma last night. Fourth one I have owned. All were great. Ordered this one the way I wanted it. I would like to put BF KO's on it, the 285's. I have read what some say, and they "think" they may rube. Has anyone put them on and know for sure that they do rube, and if so how much?

Also, the back up camera, I would like to put a switch on it to power it on when I want to see what I am pulling every now and then with out putting it in reverse, anyone done this or know what and where the wire for it may be?
